Plant vs fish omegas: The type of omega 3 fatty acids (including dha) in plants are shorter in fatty acid chain length than the ones in fish. Our bodies use then longer chains much more efficiently, perhaps 6-10 times more efficiently. ...Read more

Hyperlipidemia: Good morning: your lab results look like you are an athlete. You are doing all you can naturally to keep your risk low. This is seen in the good HDL level and the low triglyceride level. Now the rest is genetics. Thus it would appear to me time to start on a statin and to add a low dose Aspirin to your daily regimen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I take a multivitamin plus vitamin c, d, all b's with niacin and fish oil, calcium, red yeast rice, should I take the vitamin magnesium with these & why?
I don't like it.: Truth be told, I don't like combining Niacin with the red yeast rice as they can both have toxic effects upon the liver. I hope you're having your liver blood enzyme levels monitored on that combination. Adding Magnesium to all of this is not my concern as I don't see any issue in that as long as your doses of all these other medications are not excessive. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Your system is out o: As far as the gastritis and slow motility your doctor must tell you what to do. No food at all for 13 days will cause you to lose a bunch of weight. No: If you are truly a type 1 diabetic, then the main treatment for you is insulin. Avoiding Insulin in a type 1 is just going to make you sicker. I have high cholesterol (genetic, i'm healthy 25yr old), should I be careful of my egg consumption? I'm vegetarian & enjoy the source of protein
I would not worry: Vegetarianism is a moral choice and I'm glad you are allowing yourself eggs -- this is important in keeping you healthy. If your hypercholesterolemia is familial (as mine is), you'll probably be on meds by the time it matters, and in the meantime I'd rather you simply stay fit than try a dietary modificaiton that will probably not matter much and make your life less easy & enjoyable. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

What for?: Why do you feel the need to take so much fish oil? First of all, you are better off getting your fish oil directly from fish like wild alakan salmon or sardines.
