Possible: All meds in this class have been associated with some wt gain, but Abilify (aripiprazole) is the least likely. It tends to be gradual and can be prevented by attention to diet and exercise. Fear of wt gain shouldn't be cause for not getting appropriate treatment for psychiatric problems. A healthy person if more likely to be able to follow diet and exercise. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Taking 225mg Effexor&Clonazepam 4 Major Dep Dis&anxiety¶noid thoughts. Had Olanzapine&Respiridone before but is Abilify (aripiprazole) ok2take with Effexor?
Abilify (aripiprazole): It appears that you are also experiencing paranoid thoughts, and have been treated for depression. At the same time, if your doctor prescribes the Abilify (aripiprazole), (aripiprazole) with or without the Clonazepam, there is no contraindication. The Abilify (aripiprazole) might also augment the Effexor as an antidepressant, which is another advantage for this recommendation. ...Read more
Can switching from Zyrpexa to Zyprexa (olanzapine) Zydis lead to losing weight gained on normal Zyprexa (olanzapine)?
Highly unlikely: The mechanism of antipsychotic-induced weight gain appears to have no connection to formulation. It's not totally clear that it's even related to dose. They act in the brain to drive appetite and likely in the periphery to induce other negative metabolic effects (cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, hormonal, etc). If Zyprexa (olanzapine) is the right drug for you, use aggressive diet, activity, and meds to ...Read more
Bipolar 2 disorder. Extreme anxiety bad sleep cycles. On wellbutrin, topamax, abilify, (aripiprazole) clozazepam , temazepam , zopliclone ? What now?
Options: There are other options for your bipolar 2 condition. Wellbutrin won't help anxiety, and may stimulate it in some. Topomax is not a particularly robust mood stabilizer, but does work for some (apparently not you?). Seroquel may help this, anxiety, and your sleep issues. Latuda (lurasidone) is another option. Hoping you're working with a psychiatrist as you try these various medications -- psychotherapy too! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Sometimes: Wellbutrin does not generally cause weight gain (and is often used specifically because it doesn't), although rarely it might cause weight gain. Prozac is somewhat more likely than wellbutrin to cause weight gain, but again generally does not. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is probably about as likely as Prozac to cause weight gain, but again generally does not cause significant weight gain. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Abilify/Strattera: As prescribed, can be synergistic.Get a more detailed answer ›
Good Question: The exact mechanism by which Abilify (aripiprazole) (generic aripiprizole) works is unknown. We know that Abilify (aripiprazole) selectively binds different receptors based upon dose. At low doses it treats depression by binding serotonin. At high doses it treats schizophrenia by binding dopamine. While these binding affinities are well documented, there may be other undiscovered mechanisms of action. Stay tuned! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
