My mom is taking vitagliptin metformin glicanazide and voglibose. All these cause immense bloating and hardening of stools. Please advise can we do?

Unusual - See MD: Most of these medications do not cause hard stools, most commonly they do the opposite. A recent change in bowel habit in an older person is always something that should be checked up. It may not be the medications. So please advise her to see her md. In the meantime, I would suggest eating more fiber. Metamucil or similar psyllium products are quite effective, and also lower cholesterol. ...Read more

No: No, in fact, a common side effect of glucophage (metformin) is diarrhea. Let me suggest that a simple solution is to eat at least 1 cup of a high fiber cereal (Raisin Bran, Fiber One, All Bran) every day. Try to drink plenty of liquids too (avoid dehydration). ...Read more

I was taking Novolin (insulin) N & Metformin twice a day before going into the hospital. There they gave me Novolin (insulin) R. How do I get back on N. I've never used R?

I was taking Novolin (insulin) N & Metformin twice a day before going into the hospital. There they gave me Novolin (insulin) R. How do I get back on N. I've never used R?

Stay on R: It makes more sense to be on R, as it is better for u'r sugar spikes with meals. Should take 30 min prior to u'r meals, or largest meal. N formula is a long acting Insulin and won't cover the post meal sugar spikes as well. Metformin helps with keeping baseline blood sugars down overall which, in a way, is the purpose of Novolin (insulin) N, so u'r combo of Metformin and R makes more sense. ...Read more

I am taking bcp & metformin & I don't have any desire for sex. So, is it because of bcp?

Generally not: Hi. Desire for sex (libido) is very complex and involves many factors. However, BCPs are not a libido suppressant. How is your relationship with your lover?
