What is a good alternative supplement for fish oil? Fish oil tablets make me burp a lot with that yucky fishy taste.
You don't need this:
Krill oil and fish oil are the new snake oil, both are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are extremely fragile. Omega 3 fish oils reduce triglycerides by impairing the liver's ablility to make them. However the oxidative stress caused by fish oil actually raises LDL cholesterol.
Some day we may use the phrase "this is just more fish /krill oil" or "here comes the fish/krill oil salesman". ...Read more

Which parts of the fish are squeezed to get oil for fish oil capsules, and what is the fish used for after it's been pressed?
The whole fish: The whole fish is used through a complicated process that separates the water/fat from the solids. The fat is then separated from the water. The remainder of the fish is used as "fish meal" in a variety of ways from fertilizer to animal feed. Go to http://www. Fao. Org/docrep/003/x6899e/x6899e04.Htm for a full explanation. ...Read more

Omega 3 is good: Many people can not eat enough fish to get sufficienct omega 3. I am a firm advocate of taking this. I like fish oil better than cod liver oil due to its purification and processing. For heart disease it is 2-4 grams, for joint paint 4-6 grams and for prevention 2grams. For mental health it is dha not epa that you need. ...Read more
Comparable effects: Both fish oil and flax oil contain omega 3 fatty acids which are known to significantly thin the blood. With both the effects are dose-related; higher amounts thin the blood more. I do not know of any studies comparing their effects on thinning blood but would expect they would be fairly comparable. See www. Parade. Com/health/askdrrosenfeld/nutrition/fish-oil. Better to drink flaxseed oil or fish oil for omega3? Is the omega3 that comes from fish the same quality as from vegetables? Which is digested better?
Eat fish for Omega 3: Our bodies don't convert omega 3's from flaxseed into the epa & dha readily available in fish (oil). There are some attempts to make epa & dha from seaweed & algae but otherwise, read label for epa & dha content. You won't see much from flaxseed products nor will you get much conversion either.
