Ate spaghetti squash (w/olive oil, goat cheese, salt, pepper). Nose swollen inside, sinusdrainage, asthma. Allergic to squash?!? Other food allergies.

Ate spaghetti squash (w/olive oil, goat cheese, salt, pepper). Nose swollen inside, sinusdrainage, asthma. Allergic to squash?!? Other food allergies.

Food allergy: If you ate the squash and had an immediate reaction (minutes to 2hrs) that included hives, swelling, shortness of breath, wheeze, throat tightness, vomiting or passing out then I would be concerned for a food allergy reaction. Would make an appointment with an allergist to determine what could be the culprit foods. Bring list of ingredients eaten that meal to appointment. Avoid foods until seen. ...Read more

Fiji natural artesian water...Good or bad?

Fiji natural artesian water...Good or bad?

Neutral: Bottled water is convenient to carry around. But the health benefits are not exactly confirmed. In a number of cases, the municipal water is purer than the bottled water. And in some cases the bottled water contains arsenic and lead. There is no agency supervision of this and much bottled water is just tap water anyway. Fiji is not better or worse than the others. ...Read more

I eat daily lot good healthy food: raw almond, seed, Walnut, Pecan Pistachio, Brazil nut, & olive oil. This adds up to 15+grams sat fat. Any Concerns?

NO unless...: While it's long been recommended that people minimize saturated fat, recent research suggests there's no benefit to limiting saturated fat (especially when it comes from the healthy foods you are eating) unless you have Familial Hypercholesterolemia or ApoE4. See http://authoritynutrition.com/saturated-fat-good-or-bad/ for a very well-written discussion of saturated fat and the current science. ...Read more

Is it better to use canned pumpkin or fresh pumpkin? Canned pumpkin pie mix or just plain canned pumpkin?

Is it better to use canned pumpkin or fresh pumpkin? Canned pumpkin pie mix or just plain canned pumpkin?

Fresh but celebrate!: I believe in fresh fruits&veggies/shopping in the periphery of the store. However, if you have a family recipe or something that you use once per year and it's canned pie mix, go for it! Generally speaking - fresh/single ingredients are better than mixtures/processed foods since you know more about what you're mixing with the single ingredients. We can definitely discuss more about sugars, etc. ...Read more

I am allergic to iodine, shrimp, lobster, seaweed, but can eat crab, fish clams, octopus. I would like to start taking fish oil for depression. Can I?

Allergy testing: It is unusual to be able to eat crabs and seafood with such a strong history of iodine and multiple seafood allergies. I would not recommend fish oil at this time. If you are depressed, there are medications and counseling that can help - see your Doctor. If you have not been evaluated for specific food allergies, seeing an Allergist for testing is advised. ...Read more

Help, son 15 months old, opened whole fish oil 1000mg,wheat germ 100 mg per caps,2 caps and ingested, mouth smells fish, don't think mercury free?

Child should be ok: Fish oil caps are intended for maintenance use and if mercury content was high, it would not be safe for adults either. About 6 oz of wild salmon will provide about 2000 mg of DHA, and it is thought that infants over 6 months can have up to 3 oz a week, so avoid further fish in your infants diet for the next few weeks to be sure. ...Read more
