Obese Teenager Has Diarrhea Everyday
When should you see a doctor for diarrhea? My teenager has had it for about 10 to 12 hours, its dark green and extremely watery.
Depends: If he is usually healthy and this just started, keep them hydrated and watch them. Most cases will last only a short time. It is very difficult to say without seeing them. ...Read more
The definition started with Louis Israel Dublin, chief statistician of the Metropolitan life insurance company, in the early 1940s, as a BMI >25 (definitely >30) for people in their 20's based on retrospective observational life insurance data of the age at which people died later in life. This was subsequently adopted by the medical disease industry. However, BMI is ...Read more
Teenager, sent home from school with stomach bug. No vomiting/diarrhea, but nausea, cramps, sharp pains on both sides/back. Need a doc or just a bug?
Irritable bowel Synd: Your intestinal tract is irritated and hence alternates between diarrhea and constipation. Eliminating dairy and gluten (both of which have high allergenic potential) may offer some relief. Peppermint tea, oil have been shown to help a lot. See your doc for a good history and physical. You may also find that a chinese medicine practitioner can help. Taking enzymes with meals may help too. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Is 100 grams of sugar bad for a teenager, including the amount of sugar in fruit? My sister has a lot of sugar, mostly in fruit but she isn't obese.
Depends: My concern about the nutrition label is that it does not indicate the glycemic index (how quickly something you eat turns into sugar). 100gram is high but lots of fruit without the veggies is also not optimal. Try to always eat low glycemic (more veggies, berries, apples, citrus fruits, and stone fruits ) as well as whole grain. ...Read more
I'm obese and I have excessive pigmentation on my underarms and groin. How do I get my skin back to normal? I have it since i was a teenager. Thanks!
Acanthosis nigricans: Acanthosis nigricans is a brown to black, poorly defined, velvety hyperpigmentation of the skin. Common affected areas include the neck, underarms, and groin. See your doctor for evaluation. ...Read more
Full GI exam: A complete GI series exam may be the answer. Testing for food allergies is another idea. Also, ask your provider for a proper diet and perhaps a referral to a nutritionist. If you think or they find no physical cause - a specialist in dietary issues psychotherapist might be an additional resource. Best! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Persistent diarrhea: DIarrhea every day may signal an infection, food allergies/intolerance, or perhaps an underlying bowel disorder. Certainly, it would warrant investigation, starting with some stool studies. Sometimes, when the diagnosis remains elusive, consultation with a Gastroenterologist is needed. You should definitely see your provider. ...Read more
