How to know if I'm fat or obese?

How to know if I'm fat or obese?

Obese fat: Medically speaking, you can calculate your body mass index. This is a calculation based on your height and your weight. You can search this on the internet and plug in the numbers. A bmi 25-29 is overweight. 30-34 is class 1 obesity. 35-39 is class two obesity. 40 or above is class three obesity. Your risk of medical illnesses increases with your bmi.

At what percentage of body fat is a young man considered obese?

At what percentage of body fat is a young man considered obese?

> 25% for men: Body fat percentage is total body fat expressed as percentage of total body weight. Cut-off point defining obesity is >25% for men. Body fat percentage=1.2xbmi +0.23xage-5.4-10.8xgender. (gender=o for females and 1 for males). Body mass index (bmi) is the weight in kilograms divided by the height in meters squared to equal the percentage range in which one's bmi should fall. 30 or > is obese.

How fat are babies supposed to be? Can babies be obese?

How fat are babies supposed to be? Can babies be obese?

Babies: Not supposed to be any specific weight per se. Babies should grow to their own growth curve. We can overfeed them even as babies which can lead to obesity later on in life.

How does limiting fats help fight against obesity and being overweight?

How does limiting fats help fight against obesity and being overweight?

More calories/gram: Fats contain 9 calories in every gram while carbs and protein have only 4 calories per gram. So eating a food that is mostly fat will give you more than 2 1/2 times the calories of a food the same size that is mostly carbs or protein. For example, putting a tablespoon of butter or margarine on a slice of bread will give you 2 1/2 times the calories as a tablespoon of jam, which is mostly carbs.

I was a a fat baby, and now I'm skinny. Am I at risk for obesity later?

I was a a fat baby, and now I'm skinny. Am I at risk for obesity later?

Unfortunately yes: Numerous studies have shown that obesity at birth increases one's risk of being obese in adulthood. The risk also depends on whether or not your parents are obese. If one parent is obese, the risk of the child's obesity increases from 7% to 40%. If you are no longer obese, keep it that way by continuing to be active and be mindful of what you eat.

Are obese people typically warmer because they have more fat to insulate themselves?

Are obese people typically warmer because they have more fat to insulate themselves?

Obesity effects: I understand your concern. Studies done on both cold-water swimmers and hospital patients have shown that people with a higher Body Mass Index (BMI) are less susceptible to hypothermia because fat insulates the body’s core. In people with a higher BMI, subcutaneous fat effectively insulates the body’s core, while the skin cools. Some obese people feel cold in winter.

Why is my body fat percentage no different now that overweight from when I was obese?

Fat percent: Likely because your amount of fat relative to your total body weight hasn't changed, both have decreased.

Iam 34 year old lady with problem of obesity. Is there any medicine available in market that really help in burning away the fat.

Iam 34 year old lady with problem of obesity. Is there any medicine available in market that really help in burning away the fat.

Not really: Even prescription products have questionable efficacy - try to keep a calorie log for two weeks then work on cutting calories by 10% and begin walking with a goal to walk around block for now.

I am wondering if my son is at risk of becoming obese. He weighs 91kg and is 5'2 tall. He has been teased about being fat before. He struggles to run.

I am wondering if my son is at risk of becoming obese. He weighs 91kg and is 5'2 tall. He has been teased about being fat before. He struggles to run.

Weight: Your son doesn't have to run. Start w/seeing a doctor to clear him medically for exercise and rule out medical causes. Then think about going to a gym and have a trainer to start with. Or use an exercise bike at home. Brisk walking can be helpful too. Teasing is wrong but encourage him to focus on inner values rather than number on scale. Peace and good health.

Why are people less likely to be fat/obese in college?

Why are people less likely to be fat/obese in college?

As compared to when?: Many people are older teens or young adults. Many people put on weight as their adult age advances. I would suspect that many college students are also physically active.

What are the ways that people convince a mobidly obese person to stop eating high sugar high fat high sodium foods?

What are the ways that people convince a mobidly obese person to stop eating high sugar high fat high sodium foods?

Convincing or maybe: The person is convinced but just can't seem to do it. That's more likely. Why that is so is still not clear. Even in some folks who do stick to a low sugar, low fat and low sodium diet don't lose weight. That is in part because they don't reduce total calories to a point where they lose weight. Probably most important of all is getting enough exercise so metabolism can accelerate & so lose weight.

Age 40. Never been diabetic or fat. I thought Type 2 only afflicts fat/obese people. So if I've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic is it Type 1?

Age 40. Never been diabetic or fat. I thought Type 2 only afflicts fat/obese people. So if I've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic is it Type 1?

Could be type 1: Hi. Yes, type 1 is certainly possible. Easiest way to tell would be to check type 1 autoantibodies (antibodies against GAD, IA-2, and insulin). There are, however, non-obese type 2's. Whatever type it is, control it well, eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, control blood pressure and lipids, and don't smoke. Good luck!
