Can you tell me in wheat allergy can we eat oatmeal?

Yes, but....: Oatmeal is a very different grain than wheat is and it is rare that a person is allergic to both. However, many places that make cereals use the same equipment to process the oats as they do wheat, so cross contamination with small amounts of wheat can occur. Getting allergy testing done next week. Since coming off antihistamines I've noticed how extreeeemely itchy my scalp/body is. Using Aveeno (oatmeal) is helping.

Dry skin: If the allergy skin testing is solely for itching without any nasal , eye. or respiratory symptoms, I believe that the yield is quite low. Your response to Aveeno suggests that dry skin is likely the cause and would recommend that you apply the lotion <3 minutes after bathing (avoid scented soap as well) to see if this helps. ...Read more

Does oatmeal contain gluten?

Does oatmeal contain gluten?

Maybe not: Oats and oatmeal are listed as a gluten-containing grain. More recent reports say that oats don't have the gluten proteins but have small amounts of another protein that may cause reactions in some celiac disease patients. Sometimes the same equipment that processes oats also processes wheat, so there can be traces of gluten from the wheat getting into the oats. So, "pure" oats probably are ok. ...Read more
