Synthroid (thyroxine) or Armour Thyroid for hypothyriodism?

Levothyroxine.: Levothyroxine, generic form of synthroid, has many advantages over armour thyroid. The armour product has significant batch to batch variation and has T3 (liothyronine) in it. Since the T3 (liothyronine) portion of armour has a very quick onset and short duration, it can wreak havoc with the ability to effectively treat hypothyroidism. Are dessicated thyroid pills more beneficial than levothyroxine pills for hypothyroidism?

Are dessicated thyroid pills more beneficial than levothyroxine pills for hypothyroidism?

Who you ask: Most endocrinologists, don't prescribe dessicated thyroid hormone. Pills have inconsistent concentrations of t3, (liothyronine) though i understand it has improved. The body is still able to make its own T3 (liothyronine) out of the T4 used in levothyroxine preparation. This process occurs outside of thyroid gland also. Having too much T3 (liothyronine) on board can make one hyperthyroid with both short and long term complications. ...Read more

Will taking pumpkin seed oil supplements 1000mg for hair loss, negatively effect my thyroid functioning? I have hypothyroidism taking 75mcg synthyroid

Not studied: Hi. No one has studied the effect of pumpkin seed oil (PSO) on thyroid function; just like no one has studied its effect on hair loss! So take PSO to your heart's content; you're enriching some snake oil salesperson, but I seriously doubt it will have any effect on your thyroid function tests or l-thyroxine dose. My TSH levels are 4.67.My prenatal vitamins don't have iodine. Can I take iodine supplements along with levothyroxine?or levothyroxine is sufficient?

Not iodine deficient: Hi. No one in America is iodine deficient. If you're hypothyroid, it's because of autoimmune destruction of the gland (assuming you haven't had thyroid surgery). Giving more iodine when you're already replete will not help. Is that TSH on l-thyroxine? You need a dose increase if it is. Take your l-thyroxine, and don't worry about the iodine. Good luck! ...Read more
