No, there is no stud: There is a myth about milk giving more mucus. Known allergy to milk protein can cause rashes, gastro-intestinal symtoms or eczema but the nasal allergies are not well documented. Neutramigen being hypo-allergenic milk is much less likely to give symptoms. Many times patient with gerd will have increased mucus production after spicy food or full meal and that can be attributed to food itself. I thi. ...Read more
Same as all formulas: The nutritional value of this product is the same as any other formula. Be cautious about accepting hunger as the cause of fussiness or sucking behavior. Most babies will feed at any point if offered because it feels good to suck. One of the most overlooked reasons for their fussiness is fatigue. ...Read more
Formula: Although very similar, they are not identical. The problem with giving both together, is if the baby has problems, you won't know which one is responsible. ...Read more
My 5 month old has had diarrhea off/on for a few weeks. How long should this last? She is already on nutramigen.
4 m old is on nutramigen & throws up at least 1/2 his bottle each feeding and is fussy also. Is there another brand of formula recommend instead.
An infant who is: Spitting up, not gaining weight well, irritable, wheezing or having other medical problems requires an an evaluation to diagnose the cause of the vomiting. Sometimes there's a problem like reflux, a sub-mucous cleft palate or feeding issues, which don't respond to multiple formula changes. Some infants spit up the entire first year, but have no serious medical problems from it or that cause it. ...Read more
Please help my son keeps screaming every time he facts I gave him mylacon drops but it's not helping he is on nutramigen formula what could this be?
Need more info: There is something not normal. Is it the food or an intestinal problem? Please have him seen by his pediatrician to make sure what is going on. ...Read more
Nope: Origins of autism are still hard to understand & it may be decades before we do. However, there are some data indicating the problem relates to gene alterations present in the egg or sperm before conception, not from exposures later in pregnancy/ infancy. A big problem for recognition is we don't have a way to detect it before the kid is older. Like a book, we can't tell what happens from 1st pages ...Read more
Hi my baby is 15 weeks old. He has been having nutramigen milk for one day now and today his poo is grey. Is that normal?
Infant stools: Yellow, seedy, nonbloody stools are normal in a formula fed infant. Changing from breast to formula, or changing from one formula to another can cause changes in stool frequency and appearance. Sudden changes in stools, if associated with irritability, bloody stools, vomiting, lethargy or any other symptom of illness should be evaluated prompty. ...Read more
My 13 wk baby has been on Nutramigen for 2 months for suspected intolerances, there has been no improvement, is it safe to try dairy formula again?
What symptoms?: I would recommend discussing this with your pediatrician. What do you mean "suspected intolerances" - what are the symptoms? There are many "symptoms" that could erroneously be blamed on formula. Before you go and change things up, discuss the symptoms with the pediatrician - as they were the ones that started the nutramigen they will know more about what has been going on and have full details. ...Read more
My 2 month old son is on nutramigen because the regulars enfamil made him constipated. But the nutramigen doesn't fill him up.
Growth spurt..: 2 month old infants often go through growth spurts; the caloric content of nutramigen is the same as regular enfamil. He likely just needs more volume of formula. Try 0.5-1 oz more in 1-3 feedings per day. Watch for vomiting or spitting up. Remember, the goal is to not be hungry and grow, not to fill up. ...Read more
My 2m old is extremely fussy a lot of the time. I've tried everything. Gas drops, he's on nutramigen too, everything! Any advice?
My 2 month old is on Nutramigen. I read that the glutamate levels in it can trigger autism. Is this true & should I be worried about the last 2 weeks that he's been on it? I feel like he acts different now, less focused and unhappy and I'm terrified.
Relax some: You will never relax totally until the kid is running around at 2 -3 chatting and driving you nuts. But ignore the random posts about autism. Present data show emerging evidence that the changes responsible are encoded into the genes of the egg or sperm before or at conception. Once done, exposures in pregnancy or after birth do not amplify or diminish the chances. ...Read more
My 3 month old babys breath smells like urine what could this be? He has cmpa and is on nutramigen allergy milk
My baby has been diagnosed with cow milk allergy, what quantity of nutramigen formula do I add to each ounce of water?
My son has 14 m old, we changed his formula. He Has allergy from milk and soy and nuts now on Nutramigen and he is throwing up after feeding. Any other?
AMINO ACID FORMULAS: Nutramigen, Alimentum are partially hydrolyzed protein formulas. If your child doesn't tolerate them, next step would be to try extensively hydrolyzed amino acid based formulas like Elecare Jr (Abbott) or Neocate Jr (Nutricia) for ages 1 and up. They are expensive though....Best! ...Read more
My 9 week old was just diagnosed with a milk sensitivity and was switched to nutramigen. She seems to spit up a lot of clear fluid. Is this normal? I
Not uncommon: What you are giving her now is a protein hydrolysate formula. You will see how he/she is growing. As long as her weight is increasing along the standard growth curves I would not worry much. If she starts falling off the growth curves there are other good substitutes such as goats milk. ...Read more
My 7 wk old got put on Zantac (ranitidine) and enfimal nutramigen a day and a half ago but vomited yesterday night. Why is he back to crying while trying to burp?
Takes time to improv: Kids on this rx generally have reflux that causes heartburn. This process will improve gradually as the meds begin to help, but continued wet burps are quite common & sometimes persist in spite of rx. As long as baby continues to gain weight, you can continue rx & have a recheck periodically. ...Read more
14 week old baby has reflux, on nutramigen has small pinkesh bump on neck and torso. I gave him rice cereal but suspended once I saw the reaction.
What is?: If your question is about the rash, it is likely the rash is from the irritation of the spit-up from the reflux. Try to keep as dry as possible and change shirt right away if does get wet. You are on a very easy to digest formula. Even with that, though, reflux can still occur. Do small, more frequent feeds, keep baby upright 30 minutes after feeds. Good burping and elevate head of crib. ...Read more
My 4 month old was put on nutramigen for gas. Now he poops 8-10times a day and spits up more. Colic calm helps, should I switch formula and to what?
I would: Nutramigen is great for babies that are very allergic and intolerant of all proteins. However it is a granular formula that can lead to excessive stooling and diarrhea. A lot of the decision depends on what else you've tried, and what other symptoms are going on. Without knowing if you've tried gentle ease, or carnation good start, it's tough to make decisions. I'd try those two, or consult again. ...Read more
My son has problems on enfamil soy. He was switched to nutramigen, but he spits up more and is still having gas issues. I am lost! Please any advice?
Reflux: Why is your child on soy? If he has reflux then the best formula is either enfamil ar or similac rs (for spit up). Nutramigen tastes terrible and usually is reserved for infants who have milk protein allergy, and those babies usually have bloody diarrhea not just spit up and gas. For the gas you can try mylicon or gripe water or probiotics. ...Read more
My 3mo old is spitting up clear liquid. Also tends to be mucusy, curdled, and normal spit up. Could this be acid reflux? She is on Nutramigen.
Possible: Most babies have some reflux particularly with burping or a full stomach. The kind of formula has no effect. As long as there is no blood or pain and your baby is thriving it doesn't create a problem. Feeding smaller amounts more frequently and thickening the formula with 1 teaspoonful of a baby cereal per 4 ounces of formula will sometimes help as will quiet activities after feeding. All the best ...Read more
Son is 3 months old. Uses nutramigen formula plus cereal added, has reflux & spits up alot. Spit up was bright purple once earlier, should I be worried?
Bright purple: Continue to observe him and if it continues take him and a sample into his doctor's office. Was he given anything else? Like Tylenol (acetaminophen)? Also check the Colorado of his stools and urine. All the best. Bad reflux is hard to treat but he should get better. Make sure he is growing and often small frequent feeds without burping work best, along with thickened feedings. ...Read more
3week old has been on enfamil Newborn and Soy formulas. Dr just switched him to Nutramigen but he's just as gassy and spits up more often. Any help?
Talk to your doctor: It can take about a week or so to find out if the new formula will work better for your baby. Gassiness and spitting up are usually related to how your baby feeds, more than the type of formula. Hold him upright as much as possible during feeds, and burp him frequently. Don't lie him down or put him in the carrier right after feeding. Talk with your doctor if he isn't doing better. ...Read more
