I have had numbness and tingling in left thumb and index finger for 5 weeks now. It sometimes aches in the hand and up to the underarm what is it?

Pinched nerve: You are experiencing nerve irritation called radiculopathy. Most commonly, one of the nerves coming off of your spinal cord in your neck is getting pinched or irritated for some reason. You definitely need to be evaluated in person. Waiting too long could lead to permanent weakness in the hand. Treatment could be as easy as an Rx, but you might need an MRI. Please see a doc. Read more

Numbness over dorsum of left hand; over thumb and area below index, middle and ring fingers down to wrist- 1 day. No pain, non progressive, unilateral

Radial sensory nerve: Dorsal radial sensory nerve supplies that area could be too tight a watch or bracelet causing pressure on the sensory branch at the wrist level. Could also be a traumatic blow to that area, usually neuroapraxic injury (bruising) that will respond to rest and time. Read more

48 hours ago my left thumb and index finger tips went numb after a firm front neck massage. The feeling has still not returned. Should I see a doctor?

48 hours ago my left thumb and index finger tips went numb after a firm front neck massage. The feeling has still not returned. Should I see a doctor?

Yes: This suggests that you might have something (like an intervertebral disc)pressing on a nerve in your neck. It could be related to the massage if it was forceful enough to put your neck vertebrae out of alignment. You can see an orthopedist but I advise seeing an osteopath who does osteopathic manipulation- see http://physician. Academyofosteopathy. Org/
(or a direct non-force technique chiropractor) Read more

I had a ganglyon surgery 2 days ago. When I do a forward thrust with my hand I feel my thumb and index finger a little numb is this normal? Left hand

Median nerve: It seems that ganglion may have been right in the mid wrist on front side. If so, that is also where median nerve travels. The swelling from surgery may be causing temporary symptoms and it should subside once the swelling resolves. Talk to your surgeon. Read more

Second opinion: The answer given to you may be correct. Can not say without more knowledge of her injury (specifics). There is no harm in seeking a second opinion from a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Take the records and films with you. Read more

Numb in bottom 3 fingers left hand up to elbow. Thumb index finger numb rt hand. Both feet have no reflexesblood work and mri normal what test is next?

NCV/EMG: Usually an NCV/EMG is done. It is not a structural test like an MRI, but rather checks the nerves themselves. It can help distinguish between a problem coming from the spine, the arms themselves (such as carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes), or more of a neurological condition such as in a neuropathy. I have numbness in my thumb, index finger and middle finger with pain up my forearm and into my shoulder on my right side for about 2 days now?

Sounds like radial: neuropathy. Pressure or trauma can at shoulder (hanging your arm over chair) can put pressure on the radial nerve and lead to these symptoms. If the symptoms don't resolve in a week see your primary care physician Read more

3 bulging disc in my neck /pain and numbness in right arm from elbow to index finger and thumb doctor wants to refer neurologist is this correct?

Pinched nerve: Neck pain that runs down the arm with or without numbness and tingling sounds like a pinched nerve in the neck. This is usually caused by a protruding disc or bone spur touching one of your spinal nerves as it leaves your neck. A neurologist can be a good start to get this evaluated. Read more

What would cause me to loose feeling in my thumb, index and middle finger on my left hand? I woke up and they were numb this morning and still are.

Nerve issue: This sounds like a nerve issue. Either it was positional when you or sleeping, and it is likely the same nerve, median, that carpal tunnel can affect, or a nerve from your neck or shoulder coming down. Typically this does resolve over time. I would recommend an evaluation if it does not. Read more

Carpal tunnel…?: Most likely, you have carpal tunnel syndrome. This can be caused by a variety of things, and does not always affect the dominant hand. Try wearing a wrist brace (available over the counter) on your left hand at night for a couple of weeks. If it doesn't improve, see your doctor. Read more

Why numbness in thumb, index and middle finger on the right hand during sleep?

Why numbness in thumb, index and middle finger on the right hand during sleep?

Carpal tunnel: You must have your hand folded down sometimes during sleep. If you hold that position for long enough, carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms can result. Wear a wrist brace specifically designed for carpal tunnel when you go to sleep. Be sure it has a firm support like plastic of metal to keep the wrist in good position. Don't get a completely soft wrist brace since that's not adequate. Read more
