Numbness In Limbs While Sleeping
I have mild numbness in my left hand (kind of like a limb falling asleep) and less of a grip than I am used to. Help?
How bad is it to keep waking up with numb limb from sleeping on it. After wake, movement feeling came back .... ?
Numb Limb: You are somehow cutting off the blood supply to the nerves that supply the limb. Most likely by compressing the nerve. Try to sleep in different positions or put pillow between yur legs or under your arm. Typically this should not cause any long term problems provided it only happens with you lay on it funny and resolves immediately when you change positions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See your doctor: Could be a problem with skin, nerves, muscle, shoulder, lung, heart, or stomach. See your doctor for a more thorough history, physical exam and further evaluation. If you sleep on your stomach you could have a neck strain that radiates pain to the chest or arm. Get checked out just to make sure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It should return: Often when sleeping or keeping a limb in a certain position for a prolonged period of time either circulation is reduced or nerve compression occurs and this will cause of loss of function. Most of the time sensation and movement return within 1-3 minutes once the person awakens or moves the limb. Sometimes it takes longer. You should see a neurologist if no improvement for much longer. ...Read more
When i sleep both of my arms and hands go numb i wake and stand up until the pain and numbness go away. What is my problem it happens when i work longer hours with chainsaw and other hand tools. What is the cause of this
Hand : Hand numbness that appears in sleep and with repetitive movements is commonly a symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition in which one of the 3 major nerves to the hand gets compressed in the wrist. This causes numbness in the thumb, index, and middle finger, and sometimes in part or all of the ring finger, but usually not the pinkie. Discomfort from carpal tunnel syndrome can be felt elsewhere in the upper limb, but if there is true numbness anywhere in the forearm or arm, this can indicate a different problem, such as damage to the nerve roots or plexuses (big nerve interchanges) in the neck and shoulder. There are two other major nerves that go down into the hands, the radial nerve and the ulnar nerve, that could also be involved depending on the pattern of the problem it is a good idea to get hand problems checked by a primary care doctor, who can then refer to a neurologist if needed. Left undiagnosed and untreated, problems like hand numbness can become worse, or develop into weakness of the hands.
