Numbness In Finger After Cut
I am experiencing finger numbness in my right pointer finger for two days now. It happened after an art project with using an Xacto knife to cut.?
It should resolve: Hello Lauren. Assuming you didn't actually cut the finger with an Xacto knife? The numbness is likely from compression of the digital nerves that exist at your fingertip. This likely started from the constant pressure on that fingertip making them "fall asleep". The nerve should wake up on its own. It may even 7-10days. Avoid putting pressure on that finger directly until it does. ...Read more
Hi I cut my palm say 50mm deep say 2cm below my first finger and ring finger in the middle and now I have numbness in first finger but still can move?
My husband cut his right index finger on a meat saw two weeks ago. Is complaint about numbness and the healing process.
Deep cut right on the knuckle of finger, having numbness, swelling only right around cut & blue in color, could it be infected?
Possibly: If you are having prolonged pain or discoloration of your finger after a cut, you might be developing an infection. See your doctor. ...Read more
No trauma, cuts, or anything my finger swelled up with numbness to the tip but serious pain to Palm, I just had four cellulitis spots in 3 weeks is it?
Something serious: Might be going on. Get to an ortho surgeon or infection specialist asap, because an otherwise healthy person should not be getting these infections so often. ...Read more
A couple of days ago I had a deep cut on my left hand which the nurses stitched up. I feel numbness in my palm, fingers and I'm very worried.
See Hand Doc: Since the palm is a functional surface, numbness is an important symptom. If can indicate nerve damage, and certain nerves need repair by a hand specialist. Usually can be dealt with within the days following the original injury. Call the original treating provider to discuss. ...Read more
Little less than a week ago, I cut my finger with a kitchen knife. Not too deep of a cut. It's been feeling numb and hurts when I touch it. Bad?
Maybe not: Due to the high concentration of sensory nerves in the thumb, there may be significant numbness/tingling/itching and, of course, pain with healing. Signs of infection include redness/swelling that is expanding and/or drainage of pus from the wound. Pain in the hand toward the wrist or fever may also signify infection. Expect improvement over next few days ...Read more
Hello.2 weeks ago I cut my finger with a knife. It was a shallow wound. Now its ok, but I feel numb the area by the cut. Am I gonna feel soon.
Nerve recovery: We are covered with a lacy network of nerves that give us sensation in addition to the big nerves that come from deep down and spread out onto the skin like a tree. When the skin is cut, that surface network of nerves is interrupted giving you some numbness. You can probably expect complete recovery, but it will take time. Some incisions never regain full sensation, though... ...Read more

I cut my finger 3 weeks an now its healed a bit but its still numb an got lumps around it they are hard an when I bump them they get even harder.
Likely normal: If your cut was deep enough, you may have cut some of the superficial sensory nerves, which is causing the numbness. This should grow back in time, up to a month or more. The lumps are probably scar tissue that will shrink and soften over time, too, up to 6 months or a year. If you have redness, warmth, drainage, or increasing pain, get seen to make sure there is no infection. ...Read more
I cut my middle finger with a can and part of it went numb and tingly. I got stitches and until now it's still numb. Will my finger stay like this?
Nerves usually heal: This is often the case with a cut deep enough to damage nerves associated with touch. Much of the time it takes months for the sensation to return but it does entirely depend on the nature of the cut. There is little you can do except treat it kindly and perhaps consider your vitamin d level being sufficient. There is some evidence that vitamin d can help the nervous system. ...Read more
I cut my right ring finger open on glass about 3-4 days ago. It is now numb, & there is a but of tissue exposed on the wound& if I touch it's pain?
I cut my index finger open at work on some steel. Just below the tip going across. Had 4 stitches. 2nd july. Finger all numb still from tip to base.
Takes time: I'm not sure why, if your only injury was at the tip of the finger you would be numb at the base of the finger. The tip of the finger is so sensitive that you may just be interpreting loss of sensation at the tip as including the entire finger. Also swelling will cause numbness. The good news is that almost all nerve injuries in a finger regenerate but it can take a year or more. ...Read more
The tip of my right index has been numb for a few hours. I got a cut below my nail on the same finger a few days ago and I picked at it yesterday. Why is my finger numb?
Finger injury: The cut may have injured some of the nerves that provide sensations to the tip of the finger. Some of the sensations may recover over time ...Read more
Can the media nerve be repaired after my doc obviously cut it. Steroids were tried but have not worked 3 fingers still numb. Very scared.
Depends.: If you think your median nerve has been damaged, the question remains as to whether it has actually been cut. I would see an experienced neurologist who specializes in EMG studies, then possibly a peripheral nerve surgery expert (there are a few neurosurgeons who subspecialize in peripheral nerve surgery). ...Read more
My mum was cleaning a metal unit and she cut her finger her index finger at the side of the nail she said the cut is numb and the cut is black?
Go see a doctor: If it's numb, she may have cut a small nerve in the skin. That may or may not improve after it heals. The worrisome part is that it is black. Go have someone look at it. Maybe the black color is blood under the nail? But it might be infection requiring drainage or antibiotics. It's always good to update the tetanus shot if it's close to being due. They'll ask about that when you go in. Good luck! ...Read more
When im cold the blood seems to cut off in my fingers and toes and it goes stiff and slightly numb. What is it and how can I prevent it/stop it comple?
Keep feet warm: You may be experiencing a spasam of your blood vessels. Avoidance of cold exposure is helpful. Seek a consultation with a rumatologist. ...Read more
Last night I was helping my boyfriend shave using a straight razor and I cut the tip of my index finger not deep at all 2day whole side of finger numb?
Unless red.....: Unless red, give it time. I doubt a razor could injure any significant nerves, as you described (not deep). Plus, nerves grow back at that area ~1 cm per month. The area will be normal in 3 months. ...Read more
I had a deep cut on my left index finger. Stitches were done. It is still painful, can't bend, swollen & numb on the side of the fingers after 1 mo.

Did you had, a tetanus vaccination? Is up to the bone medial or lateral? Did you take antibiotics.
Is the area red, ans swollen?
Numbness is the result sensory nerve injury, transection, or affected by infection. See the Dr, who did the suturing, nerve conduction may be required.

Recently cut my hand and now left side of index finger is completely numb. It's been under a week. Will feeling ever come back? (really scared)
Possibly, slowly: It sounds like you cut your finger deep enough to nick a superficial (near skin surface) nerve fiber that control sensation. That would mean cut is specifically on left side of index finger and that the numbness travels distal to that point (toward it of finger). These peripheral nerves can regrow slowly (1mm/mo). Any hand injury could be serious. Would have it checked within 48 hours. ...Read more
I got a small but somewhat deep cut on the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger and my hand is kinda numb and I can't move my fingers very well?
Damaged hand: You seem to have damaged the nerves and tendons in your hand. I would see a hand orthopedist ASAP. He may have to do some tendon transplants depending upon the extent of the damage that you have sustained. You can check out HSS in NYC or Columbia. ...Read more

I cut my finger last night with a knife. My finger is numb tingly and when I put my hand below my heart it feels like my finger is getting shocked?
Nerve laceration: Or partial injury can make an area feel numb and change when there is more swelling. A bruise may also be more symptomatic to a nerve woth increaed blood and swelling. Gravity helps put more blood in exacerbating swelling, that's why it feel better to elevate, so do so! And follow up for an evaluation wrt the laceration, including assesment of sensataion and motion ...Read more
ER Dr said a tendon was cut from wrist laceration. I can wiggle all fingers but two are numb with limited ability to move. Well I need surgery?
Possibly.: You should see a hand specialist to be fully evaluated. Depending on your movement problems and location of the lacerations they may be able to reattach some of the tendons to improve your movement. The numbness suggests nerve damage from swelling or possible cutting from the same injury, there is unlikely much that can be done about this beyond getting the wound cleaned out and infection free. ...Read more
I cut my palm and my finger is numb is that normal? Could nerves be sown swan back together? 1/2 in wide 1/2in deep between thumb and index finger and my finger is numb and none of it realy hurts as long as its not bleeding and I keep tha skin together a
It: It sounds as though you have injured the small digital nerve that supplies the side of the index finger that is toward the thumb. It may be that the swelling is compressing the nerve. Most of the time the nerve attempts to re-grow and sensation returns. You should probably see someone to have a decision made about sewing the nerve together. This is microsurgery because the sensory nerve is pretty small. ...Read more
Usually: Nerve injury causing numbness in a finger can occur anywhere from the digital nerve in the finger to the nerve roots exiting from the cervical spinal cord. Circulatory disturbances to the hand can also cause numbness. Electrical nerve testing called nerve conduction study (ncs) can localize many cases of sensory nerve injury. ...Read more
