If numbness...: If you are experiencing leg pain and numbness associated with back pain it is possible that you might be experiencing a spine disc herniation comprising a nerve. If these symptoms are severe it is important that you see a doctor ASAP for formal exam and treatment. Depending on the findings and the severity of symptoms you might need an MRI. If not severe physical therapy might be indicated. ...Read more

Possible muscle dz: These tests are seen in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies including dermatomyositis and poly myosotis. The tests are not specific. It requires other testing to determine if you actually have this type or rare disease. You should see a rheumatologist for an evaluation especially if you have an elevated CPK blood test. ...Read more

Occasional lower back ache. My butt feels like it cramps. Both legs get cramp like pain on and off in calves and feet.Occasional numbness. Causes?

Recommend evaluation: Symptoms may suggest lumbar spine or neuromuscular pathology caused by vitamin deficiencies or hormone and electrolyte imbalances. Questions regarding other sxs should be addressed. You could schedule a consult or see your PCP. I recommend further evaluation with lab tests including B12, CK, TSH and a basic metabolic panel as well as an MRI of lumbar spine and if negative an electromyelogram. ...Read more

What else can cause sciatica and tingling in both legs, numbness in both feet, when MRI says broad based disc bulge at l4, L5 and spine dr says looks normal and the bulge isnt causing my symptoms! help?

What else can cause sciatica and tingling in both legs, numbness in both feet, when MRI says broad based disc bulge at l4, L5 and spine dr says looks normal and the bulge isnt causing my symptoms! help?

Leg tingling: Other options: poor circulation, peripheral neuropathy (diabetes or other causes), or compression outside the spinal canal. Based on your age, i would make sure that the spine doc looked personally at the films. I see too many patients with missed diagnoses because the report-only was reviewed. If in question, sometimes ct myelogram will show pathology better. Emg/nerve conductions also may help. ...Read more

Dr suspects disc herniation bc I have bad pain&numbness in my back, arms,&both legs.Lately my hands/bottom of feet hurt to.could it be RA instead?

Less likely: While it is not impossible for RA to affect large joints like the back/spine, it is much more likely to affect the smaller joints such as in the fingers. However, in order for there to be a disc herniation affecting both your arms and legs it would have to be quite high up, in your upper back or neck. Testing, including CT/MRI imaging, and blood tests are needed. Work with your doctor to diagnose. ...Read more

Painful tingling in both legs when stretching. Feet feels cold and numb afterwards. How do I fix this? I have to stretch

Painful tingling in both legs when stretching. Feet feels cold and numb afterwards. How do I fix this? I have to stretch

Stretching: I agree stretching is necessary. If you have no back pain, weakness or numbness under any other circumstances perhaps you do not have a medical problem. Gradual increments in stretching is also important. If you are stretching on a mat then try stretching while standing on your feet. Start from lower leg and end up with hip flexors. Check with certified trainer or preferably physical therapist. ...Read more

L5/s1 herniated disc leftwards, pain down both legs, when i sit the pain in my right is gets worse and my right ankle hurts and foot starts to go numb?

L5/s1 herniated disc leftwards, pain down both legs, when i sit the pain in my right is gets worse and my right ankle hurts and foot starts to go numb?

Another look at MRI: Since your right leg hurts more and has radicular symptoms, the right nerve roots are also being pinched. If there is severe facet joint disease on right side that may be the source. Another place to look would be right si joint area which can also irritate sciatic nerve causing radicular symptoms, injections at si joint may help better at times. A trial on depot Medrol (methylprednisolone) in right si joint. ...Read more
