Numb: As the other dr's mentioned radiculopathy etc etc are all possibilities. One other is compression neuropathy . It is possible because you state your foot goes numb with athletic shoes, that something in the shoe fit or position of the shoe is compressing a blood vessel(s) serving the nerve(s) to the foot.
