No known food causes: Cleft lip occurs when left, right, and upper parts of the lip do not fuse properly in an embryo. No foods are known to cause it. Maternal smoking and alcohol/drug abuse increase the chances of a cleft. Cleft lip runs in some families, but can also happen in a variety of genetic mutations. It occurs least in africans (<1 in 1000 births) and most in oriental asians and native americans (3-4/1000). ...Read more

I had a C-section 3 months a go. Since then (never during pregnancy) having slight tingling and numbness in both hands. Worst in cold?

Vascular problem: Normally numbness during or following pregnancy is related to water retention and pressure building within the carpal tunnel causing carpal tunnel syndrome. Baby girl born yesterday 6pound and 12 inch head circumference. Is her head fine I was told during pregnancy that she might have microcephaly?

My arms are going numb and tingling a lot. I'm 21 weeks and I had this with my first two pregnancies. What causes it?

Arm numbness: Sounds like carpel tunnel syndrome. It is fairly common in pregnancy due to swelling in the hands. It is caused by compression of a nerve as it passes from the wrist into the hand. Often worse in the dominant hand but can be in both hands. Can wake you up at night when the hands feel like they are "asleep". Will likely go away after delivery. Try wearing thumb spica splints at night. ...Read more
