Dog bite: Lidocaine typically wears off within a couple hours deent. The depending on a lot of factors.(+- epinephrine) etc. And sometimes docs will use bupivicaine or ropivicaine which has a longer duration. Still, 7 hours is a bit long for any agent. Its possible the trauma has severed some local nerve branches and you will be numb for weeks/months. The local swelling has to recede before assessment. ...Read more

Depends: depends upon what you mean by "recovery" and which nerves you are talking about. Sensory nerves are different at times during reconstruction in a delayed fashion. If you are talking about "the facial nerve" or facial nerve branches, immediate reconstruction is usually the timely thing to take on. But why do anything just prior to a surgical procedure that might complicate that procedure, due to an infection or other issues?
