I have suddenly become allergic to NSAID's like Naproxen and Ibuprofen after years of taking them without problems. Can this reverse itself?

It depends: There are about 6 defined immune-mediated allergic syndromes related to NSAIDs. However, these mostly do not involve "sudden" changes in susceptibility. I suspect a non-immune mediated cause, such as a non-immune pharmacologic side effect. Impossible to guess further without more information. ...Read more

Get re-evaluated: It seems that your pain is distressing/frustrating you from lack of response from med..And possibly not knowing exactly why. I would recommend seeing your doc again and express your concern--he/she may send you for xray/mri, pt, add/change med, or send you to a specialist for additional eval/treatment. Best of luck. ...Read more

Is naproxen/nsaids causing stomach pain? I've been taking it for 4mos and Goodys powder for about 7 atleast 3-4x a day.It never bothered me until now.

NSAID's likely: There are many contributors to gastric problems including: foods, dysmotility, pregnancy, smoking, nsaids, drugs, alcohol, stress, H.pylori infection to name a few. In cases such as yours, stopping the NSAIDs & aspirin should help. Adding a PPI (e.g. Prilosec, Prevacid, (lansoprazole) Nexium) may speed recovery. ...Read more

Possibly : Long term NSAIDs can lead to anemia by multiple mechanism such as gastritis or stomach ulcers. However your short term use of naproxen is unlikely the cause of your anemia. It's important to know your baseline hemoglobin & iron levels. Best wishes ...Read more

What are the direct effects of taking Aleve (naproxen) with Melocicam? I am aware they are both NSAIDs but what is the worst result?

Overdose?: Any medication (or meds in the same class) when taken in excess can cause problems. It depends on the amount and how often you are doing it and what your other medical problems may be. How much did you take? Did you do this on purpose? Is so, call 911. If you took more than the recommended dose of either, call poison control to find out how serious it is and what to expect/do. ...Read more

I read that when using Naproxen for chronic conditions (i.e.arthritis), it may take 2 weeks to get the full benefit. Is the same true of all NSAIDs?

More or less: Naproxen has a fairly short half life. Other NSAIDs such as nabumetone or oxaprozin have much longer half lives and in that case it will take the medication longer to reach a steady state. None the less, two weeks to a month is usually plenty of time to decide if a NSAID is helping or not. ...Read more
