What causes extreme, exessive thirst? I've been drinking water all day. But nothing's quenches my thirst.
Many possibilities: Causes of extreme thirst include recently eating highly spiced or salty foods; extreme dehydration from sweating, etc; bleeding enough to significantly decrease blood volume; diabetes and diabetes insipidus; certain medications; severe infections; heart, liver, or kidney failure; and psychogenic polydipsia. I have painful dry eyes, mouth so dry nothing quenches my thirst, joint pain, rash on arms, blood work normal, what could it be?
Possible Sjogren's: Without knowing exactly what blood tests were performed, it is difficult to answer your question with certainty. However, it could be sjogren's syndrome and there are effective meds for dry eyes and mouth even if the tests for this disorder are negative. Talk with a rheumatologist. I've been taking a 225mcg of kelp daily for 30 days. The past two weeks I'm having trouble quenching my thirst. Could this be related?

Why does regular water not quench my thirst but the carbonated water we make (from tap water) does?

Drinks like gatorade/powerade replenish you and quench your thirst. But how is this possible when they have sodium (salt)? Doesn't salt dehydrate you?
Replaces salt losses: During exercise and sweating, we lose variable to large amounts of salt/sodium and other electrolytes, especially if a heavy and salty sweater and/or exercising for over one hour. Beverages like gatorade and powerade replenish those salt losses while also providing water for hydration and some carbohydrates for energy replacement as well. Constant dry mouth: You know Jeremy I usually don't suggest seeing your doctor right off the bat but for this complaint that is exactly what I would recommend. You may have diabetes or another endocrine problem. In any case, I think the possibilities are to many to go it on your own. I have not been able to quench my thirst. I refill my 34oz water bottle at least 4-5 times a day. I weigh 127. Still constantly dehydrated. Help?

Go to doc!: You need to have your blood pressure, and most importantly, your blood sugar checked. Would recommend homocysteine, uric acid, hgba1c, advanced cvd profile with apo e, and mthfr genotypes 677 ; 1298, and an ANA cascade panel to rule our auto immune issues. Why does only orange juice quench my thirst since I caught a cold? I doubt water isn't hydrating me, I just still feel thirsty when I drink it.

Maybe: The term to describe this is polydipsia. It's usually a symptom of something else. Both type of diabetes can cause polydipsia (diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus).
