See a therapist : You may want to see a psychologist for an evaluation and psychotherapy. When medication alone fails to help depression and anxiety symptoms, the combination of meds with psychotherapy can make a huge difference. Also, make sure your thyroid has been checked by your doctor. Your doc also needs to rule out a rare cause of anxiety called an adrenal tumor or pheochromocytoma. Best wishes! ...Read more

I'm addicted to masturbation. I can not stop. Now I feel so tired even when doing nothing. And I think I am having deep depression, is there any help?

I'm addicted to masturbation. I can not stop. Now I feel so tired even when doing nothing. And I think I am having deep depression, is there any help?

Doctor can help!: If excessive thinking of masturbation (or any other activity) and excessive masturbating (or any other activity) is interfering with a person's daily life, then that person can go see his primary care doctor, and then perhaps a psychiatrist. Excessive thoughts and actions are called obsessions and compulsions. Doctors have several medicines to treat such a problem. ...Read more

Hard to know: It sounds like you've not found a therapist to work with/for you. It can be hard and can take awhile, but try. Step-by-step research to see what works for you. With therapeutic guidance - start from scratch - try an approach - evaluate it - stick to it or try another until you both feel it will succeed. Work on it together. 1st have a full checkup to relieve the weird medical worries. ...Read more

It's hard, but: Each therapist can be totally different. You might keep trying to find the right one for you. It's team work to solve problems. Consider meditation, yoga, physical exercise. Some creative arts can help. Re-evaluate your expectations too. Changes come at different paces and can be subtle at times. Don't give up, it's your life - aim for a 1st step and build on that! ...Read more

Get another opinion.: Sometime trying a different psychiatrist and therapist helps. It is not unusual for some of my patients to come after even half a dozen psychiatrists and reviewing the history, the treatments done will give a clue as to why the previous treatments did not work . Co-morbid conditions, other psychosocial stressors may complicate depression as well . Don't give up. ...Read more

Lithium levels normal, but still having symptoms of depression and voices. Doctor not much help, nothing more she can do. What do I do now?

Lithium levels normal, but still having symptoms of depression and voices. Doctor not much help, nothing more she can do. What do I do now?

Find another doc?: Seriously, there are several other things to do, i don't know why your doc would say otherwise. Often a second med is added to treat the voices, either an atypical neuroleptic or another mood stabilizer. If depression is the main problem, an antidepressant (or lamictal, a mood stabilizer especially good for depression) is sometimes added. Bottom line: you needs a medication re-evaluation. ...Read more

Do not delay: Depression is a serious illness. It takes more than pills to make you better. If your primary care physician has reached the point that any medication she prescribed is not working PLEASE do not hesitate to have her refer you to a psychiatrist. Alcohol even in a social setting is definitely contraindicated as it can not only make you more depressed but will interfere with medication.. ...Read more
