Depression?: Loss of appetite may be a sign of depression especially if you have problem sleeping as well. The more important question is " are you losing weight"? Several causes: Hunger is a normal body mechanism to tell us to get proper nutrition. If we eat when not hungry it may be because we did not get the proper nutrients and our body wants us to get them. However, most of the time it is due to mental and/or emotional distress and we are looking for comfort in the wrong place. How do you overcome the desire to eat when not hungry? I didn't eat dinner, i'm not hungry, but it is a struggle to not go get food.
2 Types of Hunger: The 1st is physiologic, your body needs energy & nutrients; 2nd is "habit" hunger, you are used to snacking. OK to eat more food: Meat is a concentrated source of fat & calories. It's ok & typical to eat more food on a vegetarian diet. For example, 100 calories of steak has 6.5 grams of protein vs.100 cal.
