Saw a doc for red, puffy, infected nostril. He prescribed Bactroban (mupirocin) ointment. Is this standard of care, or should I be taking oral antibiotic too?
Vestibulitis: Greetings. Great question. Personally, I recommend the same treatment for an infected nostril area. The topical ointment soothes sore membranes and kills the Staph bacteria that is most commonly responsible for this problem. IF the symptoms don't improve after 5 days of treatment, then I usually will prescribe an oral antibiotic like Cefadroxil. I hope this helps. You can consult me if needed. ...Read more
