What is the secondary infection and treatment to expect after using 2% muprocin ointment in nose?

Nose infection: It's very rare but you should have a nasal culture and possibly a ct scan. Your immune system could be compromised or you can re-infect your nose by pulling or clipping nose hairs with contaminated instruments. See an ENT specialist for answers. ...Read more

Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

I have a rash on the corona of my penis and the head. I've been treating as a yeast infection I was just wondering what arevthe signs of the treatment working?

Rash goes away.: If the medicine works, the rash will go away, usually within 10 days. If you have not seen any improvement after three to five days, get seen by a doctor to be sure you do have a fungal infection. There are other causes of rashes besides yeast. If you have had unprotected sex, get checked for std's. Also, avoid scented products and harsh soaps/detergents/fabric softeners. Don't over-scrub. ...Read more

I have a rash on the head and around the rim of my penis. No itch. No skin raised. Mild soreness. I think it might be a yeast infection? Treatment?

I have a rash on the head and around the rim of my penis. No itch. No skin raised. Mild soreness. I think it might be a yeast infection? Treatment?

See a doctor: Genital skin problems are quite common and there are too many possibilities to make even an educated guess. No STD is a likely cause of such a rash, but that's about all that can be said. See a doctor -- and avoid any self treatment before you are seen, which could make diagnosis more difficult. ...Read more

Is an infection in my nose related to a previous diagnosis of and treatment for acute cystitis? Could both be caused by yeast overgrowth?

Is an infection in my nose related to a previous diagnosis of and treatment for acute cystitis? Could both be caused by yeast overgrowth?

Very unlikely: I have never seen a yeast infection in the nose but have seen sinusitis caused by a different sort of fungus, aspergillus. You can be relatively sure it has nothing to do with treatment of your bladder infection. You should have a culture done to see what is causing the nasal infection. There is a slight risk of lymphatic spread of infection from your nose into your brain. ...Read more

My 5 yo has had multiple strep infections occurring as a rash on skin around nose. Could he be harboring strep in his sinuses? Treatment options?

Staph rather: More than strep, ask your doctor for bactroban nasal, if s/he thinks your son would benefit from. Often times it is staph colonization of the nasal vestibule that can cause this, if no improvement, see a dermatologist, good luck ...Read more

After having two colds a green mucus in the nose has lingered for the past month. Could it be a sinus infection? Does it require treatment?

After having two colds a green mucus in the nose has lingered for the past month. Could it be a sinus infection? Does it require treatment?

Highly likely: Just because mucus is colored, doesn't always mean it is bacterial. With exposure to air, secretions in the nose can turn colors. If facial pain, upper teeth pain and fever, then I would diagnose as a bacterial sinus infection and if 1 month of symptoms, antibiotic is indicated. I hope this helps. Antibiotic overuse is a huge problem. Please educate others. ...Read more

I have a runny nose with yellow mucus is this an infection or a virus sore nose and throat too treatments?

I have a runny nose with yellow mucus is this an infection or a virus sore nose and throat too treatments?

Probably a virus: Almost all nasal infections that lead to yellow mucus begin as viral infections. If you've only been sick for a day or two it is most certainly a virus at this point and should improve over the next week. If after 7 to 10 days you're no better or worse than the possibility of bacterial superinfection becomes greater. At that point antibiotics may be needed. For now hydration, tylenol (acetaminophen) and rest. ...Read more

Ok to use neti pot w sinus infection? I tried but it burned and water didn't come out other nostril, is that ok?

Ok to use neti pot w sinus infection? I tried but it burned and water didn't come out other nostril, is that ok?

Yes: But use the neti pot (or neilmed bottle) properly. Saline sinus rinsing can be very effective for sinus irritation / congestion. Water must be clean, warm, and made "salty" by use of the pre-packaged buffered salt provided with your pot or squeeze bottle. Fresh water will be very irritating! ...Read more

I just had an apicoectomy. The dr said the infection ate through the bone into my sinus. My left nostril has been bleeding since the procedure. Help?

Sinus Perforation: Many of the roots of the upper molars and premolars are very near the maxillary sinus. Only a very thin layer of bone and sinus tissue lining separate them. When there is an infection in the root apex of these teeth it can perforate into the sinus and drain. If the drainage from the sinus does not improve as the infection heals over a week after surgery. Go back to the dentist who did the surgery. ...Read more

Every morning when l get up and blow my nose l have blood show from each nostril is this normal with a sinues infection?

Sinusitis: The answer is no. Nosebleed is not a symptom of sinusitis. However, medication used to treat an acute sinus infection such as decongestants may cause drying of the nasal mucosal lining causing them to be more prone to bleeding. Or excessive clearing of sinus secretions may cause damage to small vessels in the nasal mucosal linings. Get your doctor to look in your nose. ...Read more

What is the ?: I don't quite understand the question. Did you mean that otc medications other than otrivine did or didn't help? Can regular bactroban (mupirocin) cream be put ~1 inch into nostril with cue-tip for pain due to an infection? If put on nose surface, will some reach infection?

Not recommended: One inch is too far to apply the cream in a nostril. I am afraid that you will irritate the nasal mucosae. The nasal skin is thin enough to apply topically. It is normally applied to the outside of the nose for infection. ...Read more

What is the best thing to do for a recurring runny nose and an infection in the nostril?

See your physician: Best guess at what's ailing you — you have allergies triggering recurrent runny nose and either an infection in the vestibule of the nose or recurrent sinusitis. Both types of infections are a direct result of uncontrolled allergic rhinitis. An infection of the nostril can be treated with a topical antibiotic. Sinusitis requires oral medications.
