It : It takes about 6 weeks for the nasal bones to reset (where they're no longer mobile). The swelling and bruising usually resolves sooner than that, though. Bruising normally resoves after about 2 weeks. If the nasal bones are now misalligned, you would want to have the fracture reset so that the bones heal in the proper allignment. Nose trauma: If the nose was straight before, then became crooked after injury, then it was broken. You can't bend the nasal bones ! note-- this needs immediate evaluation by ent. Broken nose: Put an ice pack on it while protecting your skin with a washcloth or towel 15 minutes on 1/2-1 hour off to decrease pain and swelling. Stay away from contact sports and other activities that could lead to reinjury. May want to consult ENT, especially if the injury has affected breathing passages significantly. Nose sprays: Oxymetazoline nasal spray for 3 to 5 days, if used too long will make it worse. This time of year it's likely ragweed allergy, a prescription for a steroid nasal spray and or an antihistamine spray would be the best bet.
