Nose Bleeds After Adenoids Removed
Septoplasty, turbinate reduction, adenoid removal 3wk ago. Bumped yesterday, slight bleed & now nose is congested. Surgeon away. Could I have damage?
Bumped Nose: Probably no harm. Usually good idea to take an antihistamine tablet. Be sure to see doctor immediately on his return to rule out hematoma of septum. If your surgeon is away two weeks than should see an ENT doctor within 5 days to rule out possible hematoma of septum, as this must be drained. Do not see emergency room as they are not familiar with septal hematoma. Again, this is rare but important ...Read more
Adenoids are lymphatic tissue found in the airway behind the nose in the back of the throat. Adenoids are made up of the same type of tissue as the tonsils. Both help fight infections. However, unlike the tonsils, they cannot be seen by looking in the throat. Adenoids are found in children and begin to regress before puberty. In children, enlarged adenoids can cause obstruction of the nasal airway leading to difficulty breathing, breathing through the mouth, nasally voice, ...Read more

I had a septoplasty and a small mass removed from my nose... How many days will he bloody post nasal drip last?
Usually not.: Unless you specifically request (and pay for) cosmetic changes to your nose, deviated septum surgery corrects the internal deformity of your septum. Severe septal injury can also involve externally-visible nasal deformity, and proper repair may involve more than septoplasty alone--this would be called septo-rhinoplasty, and is often considered reconstructive and not cosmetic in nature. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

ENT wants to shorten uvula, remove enormous tonsils and reconstruct very narrow nasal passages because I can't breathe well thru mouth or nose. Help?
Need something: Looks like you need to do something to relieve your symptoms. Surgery is generally recommended if medical treatment has become ineffective. My rule of thumb for surgery is to let your PMD help you make the decision if you need to be under the knife. They may be willing or aware of trying new medical treatments first. Feel better?? ...Read more
Throat hurts 3 weeks due to tonsil tissue remaining after tonsillectomy 6 mo ago. Hurts 2 swallow & can't sleep. Revision tonsillectomy?
Depends: You should have your throat examined by your ENT surgeon. There may be enough tissue to have the tonsil remaining tissue removed. There is also sometimes lingual tonsil tissue that may not have been removed at the first surgery. This may have to be addressed. ...Read more

Nose bleeds: It is the winter and it is possible your nares have dried out and cracked. Consider using a saline spray and see if this fixes the problem. If the bleeding is only from one nostril always and you cannot see the source of bleeding consider ENT appt to make sure there is no abnormality. Not on the top.: If you have had a tooth extraction in the maxillary posterior area (upper back part of the mouth), you shouldn't blow your nose. This is due to the close proximity of the Maxillary sinus. The sinus membrane lining is very thin, thinner than a hair, it can open and cause a perforation connecting the oral environment with sinus environment. Likelihood of infection increases and post operative issues ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
I had septoplasty surgery done about 8 months ago for my deviated septum. If my nose is grabbed, hit, etc. Can it be re-deviated?
Common: Internal nasal splints are also called septal splints. They are used to stabilize the nose and septum after septoplasty or septorhinoplasty surgery. The splint consists of a rigid or semi-rigid material that is placed on either side of the septum. The splints are brought closed together by a small stitch. After the stitch is removed the splints should slide out easily. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: Nasal septal deviation is a structural (anatomical) problem and not created by swollen turbinates. However it does make obstruction at the deviated side more noticeable since it takes less swelling to create the obstruction. ...Read more
