Stop a nose bleed bleeding for five minutes

First

First thing to do is pinch the soft part of the nose for 10-15 minutes without looking (that could allow repeat bleeding that will flush out the clot). Pinching the upper, bony part of the nose or the upper lip does nothing. There are no blood vessels there that lead to a nose bleed. If that does not work then get a bottle of Afrin (Oxymetazoline) and spray both sides of the nose with 2 big sprays--this is a vasoconstrictor that shrinks the blood vessels temporarily (never use Afrin more that 3 days in a row--read the instructions). You may need to blow your nose before the Afrin is sprayed to clear out excess blood and clot that will block it from getting where it is needed. After the Afrin, pinch the nose again for 10-15 minutes. You can repeat this again. If it is still bleeding, you may need medical attention. Once it stops, DO NOT BLOW YOUR NOSE. Frequent nose bleds are common, especially in the winter, but there are a number of problms that cause nose bleeds that should be evaluated. So if you keep getting the bleeds, see a physician.

Can you also get nose bleeds from esophageal bleeding?

Maybe

Epistaxis
Esophageal bleeding could theoretically come out the mouth or the nose, which could look like a nose bleed. Depending on the cause of the esophageal bleeding (ie a bleeding disorder?), that could predispose you to nose bleeds. Esophageal bleeding is generally something that needs medical attention though so please discuss with your doctor if you aren't already.

Dr. Andrew Shatz answered:

what can be the cause of bleeding gum and nose bleeds and watery eyes?

See your doctor

Hyperthyroidism
The watery eyes may or may not be associated with the bleeding, or may be due to congestion from the nose bleed. Recurrent nose bleeds and bleeding gums should be evaluated by your internist. Do not delay visiting him/her.

I had rectal bleeding and a nose bleed in the same day what is going on?

Mucosal bleeding

Ibuprofen
You may be experiencing the effects of platelet inhibition, most often caused by aspirin, but also by other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, alleve, etc. There is also the possibility that you have abnormal clotting factors due to another condition that affects the blood products of the bone marrow. It could also be true, true and unrelated.

I was told I have a kidney infection. I have been bleeding urinary and several nose bleeds. Starting to feel extremely weak and tired

Bleeding and weaknes

Urinary
With your nose bleeds and hematuria, your hemoglobin may be low. You need to go to an ER to have blood taken to see how low it is as well as seeing what your platelet count is. Depending on the results, you may need a blood transfusion. In the ER, a urine culture can be sent off and you can have a renal ultrasound to see if a cause of bleeding can be found in your kidneys. Go to an ER ASAP.

My 2yo gets nose bleeds and it stops rather quickly but will be all over her face. It happens every couple months. Does it sound like bleeding prob?

Nose bleeds are

Open-uri20121112-31822-1ym9wuk
common in childhood & often reflect irritants like dust, pollen, fumes, smoke etc that the kid is exposed to on a regular basis. These things accumulate in the nasal passages & lead to nasal rubbing when the kids are half asleep or during the day.The trauma causes small capillaries in the nose to blead.Nasal saline wash can remove the irritants & nasal saline gel helps if applied at night

Is it natural for your ears to bleed when your nose bleeds? My ears weren't bleeding as bad as my nose, but I just wondered if I should be concerned.

Bleeding ears

Epiglottitis
Bleeding from both the ears and the nose at the same time is unusual. There are a couple of instances in which you could see both. First is if you have a hole or a perforation in your eardrum. When the nose bleeds, you would also have to get that blood up through the Eustachian tube and into the ear. I haven't see this very often. Second is if there is bleeding from the ear canal at same time

Unexplained bleeding from multiple places could mean that your body's natural blood clotting ability has failed. That is very serious and possibly fatal. See a health provider today!
