Nose Bleeds (Overview)

Some women experience nose and gum bleeding during pregnancy. Keeping well hydrated, especially with orange juice or foods high in Vitamin C, may help to strengthen your capillaries (tiny blood vessels) and reduce this bleeding. You may also consider using a humidifier to help reduce nasal congestion. Gently brushing with a soft toothbrush may decrease bleeding gums.

What causes nose bleeds?

Adding a humidifier to your furnace may decrease the chances also. If bleeding persists, go see an ear nose and throat doctor. ...Read more

What does it mean when my nose bleeds a lot for 5-10 mins?

Epistaxis : 80% of people experience this in their lives. A common cause is dry, hot air like inside the home in the winter, causing nasal dryness and crusting. The nasal tissue cracks and bleeds easily. Treatment includes humidification in bedroom, nasal saline sprays & sometimes vaseline in the nose. It's not a major health hazard, but should an ENT doctor. There could be other problems to rule out. ...Read more

Epistaxis: Sometimes epistaxis (nosebleed) is mechanical from picking the nose and creates an open sore that bleeds. Another reason is a cold or allergies can make the turbinates in the nose become easily damaged and can bleed over and over. If the bleeding is coming from one side, most likely a blood vessel that can be cauterized. See an ENT. ...Read more

It can range from occassional nose bleeds and joint bleeds, to life-threatening hemorrhages that are fatal. There are good medicines to help stop active bleeding, and ways to help prevent bleeds from occurring. Once again, establish a relationship with a hematologist. ...Read more

Which triggers nose bleeds?

Nosebleeds: Nosebleeds are a common problem. There are multiple triggers. One of the most common is picking the nose. This happens in kids way more than in adults, but still occurs. Dryness is also very common. In cold climates, the colder it gets the less humid it becomes and this can lead to bleeding. Trauma, high blood pressure or bleeding disorders can lead to nosebleeds. Best to have an ENT look. ...Read more
