Nosebleeds can be caused by dryness and crusting, foreign bodies, tumors, septal deviations, infections and a number of other causes. ASA or Nasaids make it harder to stop. You can try Bacitracin ointment but if it persists or is severe see an ENT doc for answers ,

why does a nose bleed?

Irritation anatomy

Epistaxis
There are very large superficial vessels in the front of everyone's nose. These vessels are easily opened by local trauma. Picking, dryness, infection, rubbing, tissues can all cause irritation and ultimately bleeding. It's always worse in the cold and dry air of winter. People with anatomic abnormalities of the nose such as septal deviation have worse bleeding problems.

Nose bleed, what to do?

Nosebleed

Nosebleeds
First, if the bleeding is still going on, hold pressure at the tip of the nose by squeezing the nostrils closed. You might have to hold pressure for 5-10 minutes before you blood forms a clot. If that doesn't work, you should really be seen in the Emergency Department. If it's an intermittent bleed, keep the inside of your nose moist with saline and Vaseline. Still a problem, see an ENT.

Dr. Robert Knox answered:

what causes nose bleeds?

Nose Bleeding

Hyperthyroidism
95% plus of nose bleeds are due to inhaling dry air that leads to scabs or crusting of the nasal membranes. Use saline nose spray or saline gels to keep membranes most. Adding a humidifier to your furnace may decrease the chances also. If bleeding persists, go see an ear nose and throat doctor.

What causes nose bleeds ?

Dry nose?

Hyperthyroidism
A few things can. Commonly, dry nasal passages, blowing your nose real hard, trauma ( get your finger outta there!) . Blood thinners make you more prone. Spontaneous bleeding requires some more thought. Blood coagulation problems are a possibility, albeit not that common.

What cause a nose bleed ?

Many things

Lips
Nose bleeds can be spontaneous if the nasal passages are too dry. Nose bleeds can occur from nose picking, trauma from probing into the nose and direct trauma. Less common causes are in relationship to the menstrual cycle, and sometimes due to uncommon nasal tumors such as polyps. If you have these recurrently, then you should see an ENT doctor for a better diagnosis and treatment.

Which triggers nose bleeds?

Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds
Nosebleeds are a common problem. There are multiple triggers. One of the most common is picking the nose. This happens in kids way more than in adults, but still occurs. Dryness is also very common. In cold climates, the colder it gets the less humid it becomes and this can lead to bleeding. Trauma, high blood pressure or bleeding disorders can lead to nosebleeds. Best to have an ENT look.

Dr. Robert Knox answered:

What could cause nose bleeds?

Nose Bleed Causes

Epiglottitis
Anything that irritates the nose - smoke, dry air, allergies, a recent cold or sinus infection - all can cause nose bleeds. By far the most common are dry, itchy noses that are picked by the bleeder. You can pick your nose, but bleeding often follows. Go see an ENT doctor if the bleeding persists.
