I have random nose bleed on right nostril, any advice?

I have random nose bleed on right nostril, any advice?

Need to see an ENT: You most likely have an area in the front of your nose that is inflamed and irritated. There are large superficial blood vessels in the front of the nose that are easily injured by blowing and cleaning. Seeing an ENT doctor is important as he/she can look in your nose and see if there is a vessel that can be easily cauterized. For now avoid putting anything in your nose including saline. ...Read more

Hi, I'm concerned about bleeding, for the past week, possibly longer I keep having blood in my nostrils. Not a nose bleed, but there's blood up there.

Blood in nostrils: Do you have a cold or allergies? They cause swelling of the nasal tissue and breakdown which can lead to bleeding. Would place some vasoline inside the tip of the nose at night and in AM to mositurize, nose. Check platelets, and clotting (PTt/PTT/INR), avoid use of ASA, NSAIDS as that may increase bleeding as can cocaine, fish oil ginger ginko, Vit E. F/U with doc/urgent care ...Read more

Nasal Irrigations: Nasal saline irrigations are excellent for chronic sinus symptoms. Antibiotic ointment available over the counter is useful for irritation within the nose. Nose bleed for the first time left nostril headache on the left side, little dizziness. What shall I do?

Nose bleed: Put a lot of ointment in the nose that bled. Usually nose bleeds will stop when you humidify the nose. Irrigate the nose with saline 50 cc each nostril 5 times a day. Use ocean nasal spray throughout the day. I would not worry about the dizziness. This probably occurred because you were scared about the nose bleed and hyperventilated. Good luck. Feel better! ...Read more

Friday I had a nose bleed that would not stop. After 3 hours I went to urgent care. The dr put a cotton plug into my nostril. Bleeding stopped - can I remove the plug or should I have a dr do it?

Did: Did the urgent care doctor tell you if there was a visible bleeding vessel? Were you told to see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat specialist)? If not then the bleeding was probably due to dry nose secondary to allergies or other issue, however it would be wise to follow up with your primary care provider for a more clear understanding. You should be able to take the cotton out yourself. However if the bleeding persists and does not stop you need to go back to the urgent care.
Good luck. ...Read more

Repeated nose bleeds. Went 2 doc nothing wrong. Today during nose bleed a large clot of blood came out of nostril. Not mucus. Shld I be concerned?

Epistaxis: 80% of people experience this in their lives. A common cause is dry, hot air in the western US, causing nasal dryness and crusting. The nasal tissue cracks and bleeds easily. Treatment includes humidification in bedroom, nasal saline sprays & sometimes vaseline in the nose. It's not a major health hazard, but should an ENT doctor who can better evaluate. There may be problems not seen by PCM. ...Read more

Never had nosebleeds before 4 months ago. I've had several since. Same nostril. When it does bleed it's quite a bit not just spots. Is this serious?

Not serious: Intermittent nose bleeds are not worrisome - even if you have never had them before. I usually recommend saline mist or gel - like ChitoRhino. Using that as needed throughout the day to keep the nose moisturized can help. See an ENT if it does not improve after these simple measures. ...Read more

For the past week, I have gotten 5 nose bleeds, from my right nostril, at night. Why?

Nose bleeds: One of the most common reasons for nose bleeds is dry nose. You might be breathing through your mouth or the humidity in your bedroom might be very low. The dryness can cause bleeding because the lining of your nose dries out and can crack. You might have a prominent vessel, as well. Best to have it looked at with this many bleeding episodes just to make sure you don't need some treatment. ...Read more

Muscle spasm: The nose bleeds are likely from dry air created by your furnace. A cool mist humidifier in your room does wonders for nose and sinus membranes. Your back sounds like a muscle spasm. Check your BP: If the nose bleed is always from the same nostril it could be due to a superficial vessel, or dryness in the nose. How to stop your nose bleed easily?

How to stop your nose bleed easily?

Depends: Nosebleeds occur for a variety of reasons. In children, 90% of nose bleeds occur in the front near the nostrils, which is why pinching the nose helps stop it, since pressure is applied. In adults, it can also be posteriorly, so pinching helps in fewer cases. Lean head forward, not backward, so you do not swallow the blood. May need scope to evaluate for nasal mass and blood work to check if okay. ...Read more
