Nose Bleed After Surgical Abortion
I had a abortion 2 days ago along with inserting the nexplanon right after. & I randomly had a nose bleed is that normal?
I just started having a nose bleed today. I've only had one in my life after surgery. Is it a problem from my concussion that I got on February 2nd?
Woke up with blood on pillow 3 inch round. Had heart surgery twice. Last was valve reconstruction. No scratches or nose bleed. I'm a little worried?
Surgical bleeding: Bleeding after any surgical procedure is not uncommon and is related to the mechanics of the procedure. Factors that worsen the risk for bleeding include use of Aspirin and anticoagulants. Hypercoagulopathy can also be a contributor. Okay to call your surgeon or team if the bleeding continues. ...Read more
Bleeding after abort: Bleeding from the rectal area after an abortion can be worrisome. A trauma during surgery could be a possibility although rare. I don't think so: It may not be terrible, but it doesn't sound normal and 8 months is a long time. I advise seeing your doctor for an examination and follow up treatment. Take care of yourself! Best wishes. ...Read more
I had a surgical abortion 4 days ago a fever yesterday of a 100.3 & blood cots the size of a quarter the next day with heavy bleeding what's wrong?
A few ideas: I'm not so concerned that you had blood clots the size of a quarter, as these can be normal following a surgical abortion. Sometimes a low grade fever is also normal. Did your surgeon give you some Doxycycline to take following abortion? That is best. If fever is gone, you're likely not infected, but keep eye on temperature. Motrin can help as well. ...Read more

I started generess fe the day after a surgical abortion. On day 4 and 5 I start exp cramping and back aches as well as light bleeding, normal?
Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very normal on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. Just continue taking. ...Read more

Probably nothing: Following any abortion some spotting and cramping can be normal; also HCG does not drop immediately to zero following abortion so normal ovulation can be delayed. I had surgical abortion 19 days ago. Went on bc after abortion. Had brown blood for a week and stopped, now started to have red/pink light bleeding?
Sounds normal: Spotting and light bleeding on and off for a few weeks after that procedure is expected. Usually I schedule a 2 week post op check and evaluate my patients for "retained products" or infection. If you haven't had that appointment, I would recommend scheduling it. But most likely, you are just healing and getting used to the pill all at the same time. ...Read more

I had a surgical abortion 3 weeks ago. I'm still bleeding but now my bleeding has an odor for the past week. Should I be worried?
Odor after D&C: After a D&C for miscarriage it is not that rare that tissue is left behind. This could become infected. It is not normal to bleed that long and with odor, you need to get checked for infection. Your physician may decide to perform a vaginal ultrasound to rule out retained placental tissue. ...Read more

Unclear: If the spotting continues to improve then I would expect for your to be done within 1 week. Let clot form: Most nose beelds will stop if you sit upright and pinch both sides of the soft portion of your nose with your thumb and index finger for 5 solid minutes without letting up. This will allow a solid clot to form. If bleeding persists go the emergency room for treatment which may involve cauterization or packing. ...Read more
Friable membranes: It is more common to have nosebleeds in dry conditions unless allergies play a part. If it is hot and humid and you spend most of your time in a/c that could be drying causing the nasal membranes to crack and bleed. ...Read more
Hold pressure.: Sit down and gently squeeze the soft part of the nose between your thumb and finger (so that the nostrils are closed) for a full 10 min. Lean forward to avoid swallowing blood and breathe through your mouth. Wait at least 10 min before checking if bleeding has stopped. Many bleeds can be controlled in this way if enough time is allowed for the bleeding to stop. Do not pack nose with tissue. ...Read more
First: First thing to do is pinch the soft part of the nose for 10-15 minutes without looking (that could allow repeat bleeding that will flush out the clot). Pinching the upper, bony part of the nose or the upper lip does nothing. There are no blood vessels there that lead to a nose bleed. If that does not work then get a bottle of afrin (oxymetazoline) and spray both sides of the nose with 2 big sprays--this is a vasoconstrictor that shrinks the blood vessels temporarily (never use afrin more that 3 days in a row--read the instructions). You may need to blow your nose before the afrin is sprayed to clear out excess blood and clot that will block it from getting where it is needed. After the afrin, pinch the nose again for 10-15 minutes. You can repeat this again. If it is still bleeding, you may need medical attention. Once it stops, do not blow your nose. Frequent nose bleds are common, especially in the winter, but there are a number of problms that cause nose bleeds that should be evaluated. So if you keep getting the bleeds, see a physician. ...Read more
If it stops: Nosebleeds are scary, but most stop promptly unless you have a congenital bleeding disorder or very high blood pressure. Pinch your nostrils shut firmly for 10 minutes by the clock; if the bleeding has stopped, there's no reason you can't go to work. If bleeding continues, you need to see a doctor promptly. ...Read more
