How long is Extended Release 2mg Xanax (alprazolam) half life, compared to 2mg Klonopin half life?
Xanax (alprazolam) XR vs Klonopin: The half-life for Xanax (alprazolam) XR is short 10.7–15.8 hours and the longer-term efficacy of Xanax (alprazolam) XR has not been systematically evaluated. Klonopin has an unusually long elimination half-life of 18–50 hours, it considered the longest-acting benzodiazepine. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Metropolol half life is 3-7 hours. How can Metropolol Succinate stay in the bloodstream for 24 hours if half life is only 3-7 hours?
They are different: Metoprolol does have a 3-7 half-life, but that’s metoprolol tartrate, which is immediately absorbed into the bloodstream. The succinate version of metoprolol, however, also comes in a tablet (“extended-release”) that gives a person small amounts of medication over 24 hours. So the half-life - the rate the person eliminates the drug - is not different, but the rate the tablet releases it is. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
1mg dose of klonopin (clonazepam) lasts for about 8 hours.Half life 18-60 hours. The half life seems meaningless if it only therapeutically works 8 hrs.Explain?
Therapeutic: Of course these are just standards for a general population. But, therapeutic levels represents a blood concentration that is high enough to see the effect of the medication still working. Blood levels of the chemical/drug/medicine are detectable but not at a level to provide with the well known effect of the medication. ...Read more
Latuda (lurasidone) Half Life: The activity of Latuda (lurasidone) is primarily due to the parent drug. The pharmacokinetics of Latuda (lurasidone) is dose-proportional within a total daily dose range of 20 mg to 160 mg. Steady-state concentrations of Latuda (lurasidone) are reached within 7 days of starting Latuda (lurasidone). Following administration of 40 mg of Latuda (lurasidone), the mean (%CV) elimination half-life was 18 (7) hours. Absorption and Distribution: Latuda (lurasidone) is absorbed and reaches peak serum concentrations in approximately 1-3 hours. It is estimated that 9-19% of an administered dose is absorbed. Following administration of 40 mg of Latuda (lurasidone), the mean (%CV) apparent volume of distribution was 6173 (17.2) L. Latuda (lurasidone) is highly bound (~99%) to serum proteins. In a food effect study, Latuda (lurasidone) mean Cmax and AUC were about 3-times and 2-times, respectively, when administered with food compared to the levels observed under fasting conditions. Latuda (lurasidone) exposure was not affected as meal size was increased from 350 to 1000 calories and was independent of meal fat content ...Read more
Depends.: I am assuming you are talking about the half life of a drug. A drug with a 25 hours half life means that after 25 hours, the blood concentration of the drug will be halved. So at hour zero it's 100%. At 25 hours , the concentration is 50%. At 50 hours, it's 25%. At 75 hours, it's 12.5% etc. Please note that using half lives is an oversimplification and doesn't always correlate with drug effect. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
It isn't scored.: I can't find anything on any sites about ability to cut the pill. However it does come in a 5mg strength. Sometimes when pills are not scored - they aren't meant to be broken. Hopefully, another physician on healthtap can provide you a more definitive answer than mine. Take care. ...Read more
