In 2011 creatine level of 1.36, 2012 it was 1.49. Yesterday results was 1.38, and my GFR 79. NO protein in urine. Am worried. Is this normal?
Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more
BUN of 10 with creatinine of 1.05 year ago BUN of 12 creatinine. 89. Now have low bun/creatine level and GFR of 58. Urine and all other lab's normal.
Isn't it impossible for someone to have end stage renal failure with consistently normal bun and creatine blood levels and only protien in urine?
Most likely yes: The diagnosis depends on multiple factors including the likelihood of improvement with treatment. If there can be no improvement and there is severe protienuria due to glomerular malfunction, it is possible to be labeled end-stage before a significant change in creatinine or BUN has occurred. ...Read more
Urine labs received with out a reference. Creatine 32, protein 12.1, pro/ cret ratio. 38. Are these results with in normal range?
This: This is an estimate of how much protein you are spilling in your urine. You are spilling some, but not a large amount to typically warrant a biopsy if the numbers are correct. Your rheumatologist may still want you to see a nephrologist or kidney doctor to see if they can minimize any protein spillage. ...Read more

Consult nephrologist: Your eGFR puts you at risk and you should consult a nephrologist to make sure that a treatable condition is not being missed. It is not feasible to provide a more meaningful opinion without an in-person evaluation. ...Read more
5 year male. Rt kidney not functional. Left have pyelonephiritis changes at upper & lower pole. Urea, creatine, urine culture, Hb, BP normal. Advice?
Treat infection 1st: Harold, this child's infection must be treated first--then consideration of treatment for the nonfunctional kidney may be undertaken. In a 5 year old boy, the root cause of the nonfunctioning kidney and the cause of kidney infection should be sought, so that proper treatment can be undertaken. See a pediatric urologist. ...Read more

Could vaginal discharge contaminate a 24 hr urine test to give 0.42g of protein? Creatine tests normal.
Not significantly: Most OB's order 24 hour urine in pregnant hypertensivie patients and almost all pregnant patients have leukorrhea (pregnancy discharge). It is primarily mucous and not loaded with protein. While it might contribute a small amount, it still wouldn't matter because the cutoffs we use for preeclampsia are all based on pregnant women with similar discharge. ...Read more

Does kidney failure typically cause urine pH fluctuations & protien in urine, but normal bun and creatine?
Renal failure: Renal failure implies the kidneys are not working. When that happens, BUN and serum creatinine rise. Ph fluctuations in urine are normal. Mild amounts of protein in urine can be normal. So, kidney failure can cause a whole bunch of urine changes, but BUN and creatinine have to be abnormal to make this diagnosis. ...Read more
My creatine is 70 and egfr is 79 is this low I am 46 female have trace of blood in urine but has come back normal should I be worried?
Should be OK: Your creatinine is probably 0.70. Egfr is good which means that your kidney is filtering out toxins well. You should ask your doctor if there were some red blood cells and protein also in urine. If there is then may need more investigation. My feeling is that every thing is ok since repeat urine analysis was ok. ...Read more

My bun was a 10 and my creatine was 0.8. Could I still have kidney failure or would those levels have to be high? I have protein in urine regularly!
7 mo postpartum. Hypertension right after birth. Resolved quickly. Now have protein in urine (0.42g/24 hr). Creatine tests normal. Possibilities?
Urine: You have 420mg of protein which is above normal threshold but not enough to suggest disease. The fact you have Pregnancy associated htn suggest you should follow your BP. I would recheck your urine test and would also check micro albumin urine. Future urine for protein and urine for creatinine ratio is as reliable as a 24 hr and can be used to follow progression. ...Read more

Yes. You should be.:
Although your creatinine level in blood is nit alarmingly high but elevated creatinine is a sensitive marker of kidney bit doing well. The high blood pressure is one of the main reasons for the kidney damage and the blood pressure should be appropriately controlled. You need to check if your urine has proteins in it.
Also make sure that you don't take too many nsaids as they damage the kidneys. ...Read more
Can high calcium and potassium in blood taken 4 days after contrast CT scan be caused by the contrast? Normal creatine and urine test
Yes: Newer contrast today withnon-ionic iodonated contrast has less potential for side effects compared to the older generation of contrast. However, contrast-induced nephropathy can occur within anywhere from 1-5 days, with incidence of 0-40% depending on your risk factors, such as pre-existing diabetes, metformin usage. Potassium and calcium levels can increase due to decreased kidney function. ...Read more

May get follow-up: This is a way of estimating how much protein is being lost via the kidneys on a spot urine, without using a 24 hour check. This is a wee bit high. If you have diabetes, this might be a reason for a follow-up study; if there's nothing else to suggest kidney disease and you're not diabetic, your physician may simply note it for future reference. ...Read more

Kidney function: Microalbumin is a test used to measure the progression of kidney damage in patients who are at risk. Ex. Patients with diabetes, high blood pressure. In patients with normal kidneys, albumin is kept inside the body. If its found in the urine, it means the kidney is damaged and can't hold the albumin in.
