Normal Saline Enema
Enemas: A saline enema is just plain salt water. It is effective but does not contain a cathartic such as phospho soda. Basically, you are just flushing yourself out with liquid.
Start simple, but...: First optimize fiber ; h2o intake. Next, docusate helps moisten ; soften hard, dry stools. It is not a true laxative, but facilitates natural defecation, usually within 12 to 72 hours. This is safe ; available for anyone over 2, ; ;assumes normal GI anatomy without inflammation, stenosis, extrinsic or instrinsic obstruction. But change in bowels is a "red flag" that needs evaluation if persistent.
Constipation how many times should I used fleet saline enema should I only used it one time today?
Used enema I made today with only bottled water, no sodium are anything! Is that safer than store bought saline enema?
Why using: Enemas? You should be eating enough fruits and veggies that you should not need enemas. Water enemas are not safe and can alter your electrolytes. Miralax (polyethylene glycol), store brand, is a safe laxative to use that will not harm you if taken for a long time. It works by softening and bulking the stool. Best!
I hear a lot of people doing coffee enemas, saline enemas, and other types of enemas on a daily basis? Is this safe? What are the benefits
No proven benefit: There are no proven benefits to any kind of coffee, saline, or other substance enemas. Since the colon is able to absorb liquids and other substances, there also can't be some potential risks. There also would be a slight risk of perforating the colon. I would recommend against pursuing any kind of therapy with enemas, unless it is prescribed by your primary care doctor or your gastroenterologist.
Enemas oil based/sal: Saline enemas loosen stool and stimulate bowel movement. If used frequently these can cause hypocalcemia and hyperphosptemia. It is effective in severly constipated with/ without stool retention.Mineral oil enemas are used in patients who are impacted with stools so hard and large causing obstruction, and is used as retention enema, if patient is able to retain overnite follwed by manual disimpaction.

I am having a barium enema done and they told me to use a water enema. I have saline. Is this ok to use?
Saline is good...: Not too many people stock saline at home, but if you have it at home, it is ok to use with your enema. Saline is basically water +salt+chloride in concentration slightly higher than your plasma (blood fluid without the red/white cells). It is probably a safer enema to use then water, but the difference is likely not significant. Good luck with your procedure.
Are periodic saline enemas good for your colon since it's cleansing? Can they (enemas) damage your body or are they largely benign/safe to use?
Saline enemas: I know of no evidence that saline enemas are either cleansing or healthy. I recommend you go to uptodate and look it up.
I am experiencing constipation. I have already did saline enema and side still has pain on right side I get pains all the time doc says it's constipa?
Constipation: Please try the following measures: Add some processed or synthetic fiber-such as Citrucel, Metamucil, or Perdiem-to your diet each day. Try a stool softener, such as Colace, if your stools are very hard. Try Swisskris. Follow the directions on the label. Exercise and increase fluid intake.
I can't pass this stool. I'm bleeding possibly due to irritating a fissure. Its difficult to stand or sit. Will a saline enema help?
ER: You most likely need to go to an ER where they are set up to handle these messy situations. Sounds like you have a complicated situation and may need some assistance.
White opaque clear slime/mucus came out whn I farted while peeing. Had a saline enema the night before. Slime had slight fishy smell.
Mucus: This mucus secretion was most likely the result of mild irritation/inflammation brought on by the enema that you administered. It's a benign reaction and should subside without any treatment. If constipation is a persistent and definite change in your usual bowel pattern, consult your physician for evaluation.
