If a normal respiratory rate is 12-20 breathes per minute for an adult, and mine is about 6-9. Is this healthy? I do not have any medical conditions.
Measurement bias?: If you are not having any symptoms it is not likely a problem but might be a bias as you know that they are being counted. Generally respiratory rates that low only occur from conscious effort or overdoses on medications. ...Read more
What's the relation between heart rate and respiratory rate? Is there any formula to calculate one given the other?
AWESOME question: This is a great question. The physiology is crazy complex, and unfortunately the answer is that hr and rr are *not* linked. Hr is driven by o2 demand, and rr is driven (in a normal non-diseased person) by co2 level in the blood. However, you're sidling up to something called the fick equation that shows that heart rate changes to match oxygen demand, which usually means higher resp rate. ...Read more

Congrats on stopping, and stay quit! ...Read more

What respiratory rate is acceptable for a 6y.O. Trachee at rest (seated)? Work of breathing always fairly high. Best usu 24 but not lately.
Depends on baseline: Everyone has a baseline rate, which his rate is on a day to day basis, especially when not ill. A 6 year old can be between about 15 and 30. (if the child is always healthy, any baseline rate in that range should be ok).
