Normal Red Blood Count Range

Ferritin, hematocrit, hglobin normal. Hematocrit 44. Will iron increase it? Serum iron low. Rbc count normal and above.
Why do you ask?: This is almost certainly the right hematocrit for your body. No "pop" remedy is going to increase it; if you are seeking to raise it artificially for an athletic competition, you'll have to ask elsewhere. Loading up on iron is likely to make you sick, both acutely (upset stomach) and long-term (iron-overload still kills plenty of men). ...Read more

500000, right?: This is higher than most folks, but "normal" here is a curious idea -- lab reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthy folks fall a little bit outside on either end. If you're iron-deficient, that would be the obvious explanation, even if you're not significantly anemic. If not it's something to follow, or your physician may want to do a gene test for essential thrombocythemia. ...Read more

Hemoglobin 12-16: There is more than one way to measure red cells. The most meaningful is hemogllbin level, and should be 11.5 - 15 or so in a woman, and 13.7 - 16.7 in men. The actual range varies with each lab and instrument used to measure. An older way of measuring, hematocrit is about 3 times the hemoglobin. The actual red cell count is usually 5, 000, 000, but doesn't carry as much information as hemoglobin. ...Read more
4,000 - 10,000: This is somewhat dependent on ethnicity. The normal range for caucasions is 4, 000 - 10, 000/ cubic millimeter. People of color (blacks and asians) tend to have a lower wbc, and their normal may go down to 3, 000. The most prevelent WBC is a neutrophil, and there should be at least 1500 neutrophils for all ethnicities. ...Read more
Variable lab normals: Each lab has normal ranges of the values. White Blood Count normal range is usually between 4.0 and 10.5. Hemoglobin values are usually between 11.0-14.5 for women and 12-15 for men. Rarely do people actually quote the RBC count number although it is reported on most lab reports. ...Read more
What does a high number of red blood cell count signify? My recent blood test came back and my red blood cell count is above the reference range. 7.64
Not very significant: Slight increase in RBC's may be a compensatory reaction to blood loss either external from injury or internal like a bleeding ulcer. Excessive increase in RBC count can be due to bone marrow disease. Repeat the count after a few months and if it is still high consult a hematologist ...Read more
Neutrophils 77 slightly out of range but absolute neutrophils normal. Why elevated neutrophil level on the one blood test?
Totally meaningless: If the absolute values are in reference range, ignore it totally. I wish labs wouldn't even report these percentages. And reference ranges themselves are set up so that several percent of healthy people fall outside. A short swim in cold water can triple your neutrophil count. Don't treat labs -- look at people. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
