Normal Horizontal Field Of Vision Test
Visual field test result normal - 3/14 fixation error. Some peripheral vision loss not in field of vision. Why does test result say normal?
YAG iridotomy at 12 o'clock position. Have ghost images in lower field of vision. Looks kind of like a line/crescent of light Will these resolve?
Most often yes: Sometimes no, if it does not, please look into a corneal tattoo (rarely needed but works very well to block the extra light coming through or colored contact lens. ...Read more
Two eye drs. Looking at visual field test result. One dr says it is normal & other says there's peripheral vision loss. Why the difference of opinion?
Interpretation: Interpretation of visual field change is somewhat subjective. As many as 5 cosequetive visual fields are necessary to show change over time. Peripheral changes can have a lot of "noise" in deciding whether or not it is real defect or not. Repetition of field testing and confirmation of defect over time is more accurate. Even then, there are many factors that can interfere in vf assessment. ...Read more
Normal field vision test. Dilated optic discs small w/slight asymmetry. Suspicious oct scan. Eye pressure 27. Family history. Suspect for glaucoma?
Generally not: Visual field tests are used to assess optic nerve function, most commonly in glaucoma. They can be used to identify possible strokes as well. The only weak muscle that could be identified would be the upper eyelid muscle in ptosis, as this would show obstruction of the superior visual field. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Visual field testing will occasionally pickup small areas of visual field depressions if the floater is particularly large and thick, as some patients may have. Since they move, a repeat visual field should also show the depression to have moved. I would not however expect a large visual field abnormality from a floater and certainly l recommend an exam to rule out any problems by an eye md. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What are the chances of me having an orbital tumor/brain tumor w/ 1mm left eye bulge? No vision loss & no double vision. Thyroid results normal.
Is it possible to get accurate visual field test with macular pucker decline in visual acuity, lights less bright & white computer screen looking gray?
Usually it is fine: You have defects in the central visual portion of your field of view - an area poorly outlined by most field testing devices. Field tests will define major defects which largely will register from the peripheral areas tested. Have you had a field tested in the past? Is there some condition being sought for with a field.? Your ophthalmologist would not order a field if he doubts the result. ...Read more
Glaucoma rt. eye.Humphrey field test full within normal limits.DMV peripheral vision test 50 deg left & 70 deg right. Dr says DMV test wrong.Possible?
Depends: Most Humphrey testing is 30-50 degrees from the center simply because ones that measure farther out take too long a time and most glaucoma changes start in the center. The DMV tests check a couple of horizontal points about 60 degrees and 130 degrees out. So it depends upon which testing you went through. Hopefully, with a glaucoma diagnosis, you are seeing a real doctor - an ophthalmologist. ...Read more
Hello, I have slightly higher intra- ocular pressure in both eyes and normal optic discs and no gross field defects .which hospital eye test suitabl?
Pachymetry ?: It sounds like you are being worked up for the possibility of glaucoma. You need also to know pachymetry, the thickness of the front of the eye which is a parameter involved in glaucoma diagnosis. All the needed tests are available in an ophthalmologists office; you do not need to go to a hospital. ...Read more
I have a burst blood vessel in back of eye (seen specialist all test back normal- perfect health) no vision left eye, how long for return of vision?
Depends on cause: If the burst vessel released blood into the back of the eye, recovery depends upon how rapidly the blood is re-absorbed which may take 1-2 months. If it is a vessel that supplies a critical portion of the vision, there may be some permanent loss. These are all modified by whether or not you have diabetes or a vascular disease like coats disease.;. ...Read more
Blurred vision in one eye, headaches, muscle twitches, dark/yellow circles around eyes. Cat scan of brain & blood work normal. Sound serious?
See an eye doc: Even though cat scan normal, you should still be seen by an ophthalmologist given your symptoms especially if they are progressive. It could be as simple as needing an updated pair of glasses if this is just eye strain(which can cause blurred vision, headaches, and stress related twitching around eyes), but it needs to be ruled out because it could be more serious. ...Read more

In monitoring open angle glaucoma, if oct test results taken 1 yr. Apart are different, can it mean glaucoma isn't stable? No change in visual field.
Open angle glaucoma: By definition will diminish your retinal nerve fiber layer (rnfl) over time if not well controlled. Serial rnfl scans are highly sensitive and can detect small changes prior to a formal visual field test demonstrates changes. Questions if loss is occurring can be answered by looking at serial scans of the rnfl over time and looking for trends. So, yes, it may not be stable and requires follow up. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
One ophthalmologist says field vision test is good and another says minimal field vision loss. Do these comments somehow mean the same thing?
Interpretation : Visual fields are "noisy". Analyzing the data of visual fields generally takes time. I prefer up to 5 visual fields done over many months to a couple of years before i can tell if the field is stable or changing. Also different types of visual fields can be performed and the data may 'look' different or have more variations in data. Your md will discuss any concerning changes & adjust treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hemi-field loss: Is usually due to a pathology posterior (behind) to the eye itself. A lesion or area of pathology will usually be located from the area of the pituitary gland (approx. just forward of central brain) where the optic nerves cross to anywhere along the optic radiation ending at the occipital lobe (portion of the brain at the lower back of the skull). An MRI or CT can usually identify the cause. ...Read more
64 y.O. Female. With transient 3-5 minutes) vision change: vibrating, black zigzag lines, glowing around periphery of both eyes. Not blurred x 3?
Most likely migraine: Visual events described as wavy, zigzag, saw toothed, jagged, scintillating, often are a result of a migrainal event that has stimulated the visual path in the brain. They may or may not be associated with headache, nausea, vomiting or other associated symptoms. To be sure see your eye md for an exam to make sure it isn't a retinal issue. ...Read more
