Baby boy head circum. at birth was 37 cm, at 4 mos.- 44.5.Had head u/s at that point.ALL NORMAL.Today at 7 mos. its 47.5 cm if not 48. Developing normally, a big boy - 9.5 kg,72 cm.Should I disregard the percentile charts? Can this increase be normal?
Head circumference. : As long as the head circumference is tracking along the same percentile and with normal developmental progress, all that is needed is close followup with your child's PCP. Based on the information you provided, the head circumference is on the upper end of normal (~98th percentile). A family history of individuals with large heads, if present, make the head circumference stats less concerning. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My baby girl had a head circumference of 34.5 CM at birth, and now at 2 months she has a head circumference of 35.5 cm. Should I worried?
One cm a month: One centimeter a month of infant head growth is just about right! Here are the charts we use here in the US to evaluate head growth in babies. http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set2clinical/cj41c070.pdf ...Read more
Any significance of head circumference 19 percentile at birth and 89 percentile at 8 years? Child does have level 1 autism diagnosis.
My daughter head circumference was 33 centimeters at 3 weeks now its 36 centimeters at 1 month is that normal?
Many variables: Heads/Brains grow rapidly at this age but growth isn't the only variable when considering head circumference. The measurements could vary if it wasn't taken exactly the same way. When you follow up for the 2 month visit, your Pediatrician will plot another measurement on a growth curve and compare it to prior records. As long as your baby is feeding/acting/developing normally, I wouldn't worry. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
13 week baby head circumference 98th percentile, ultrasound normal & hitting milestones,is there a reason to worry?worried first time mum!
Hope so: I suppose you mean inches in circumference. This is is on the larger size for an adult, but since mine is bigger, i think it is fine. It does make finding head gear that fits a bit harder. It would be a bit off the chart for a 3 year old. ...Read more
Hi my 9 week old sons head circumference measures 16 inches he weighs 11pounds 8ounces, is that in the normal range for head measurement.
Head circumference: A head circumference of 16 inches at 9 weeks places him at the 95% for his age and sex. This is considered normal. I don't have a height, but his weight is about the 85%, so it seems from that he is generally a big boy. The more important factor, however, is interval growth from visit to visit. If he's always been at the 25% and suddenly is at 95%, that's more concerning than if he is always 95%. ...Read more

Relative study: His rating means that 10% of infants at this age have a larger head circumference (size) while 90% are smaller. If the size has increased from 25-50-75-90% over several months it would suggest growth was too rapid. If usually in that range, it just means the kid has a big head.It hasn't bothered me any, except for having trouble finding a helmet/hat that would fit.. ...Read more
I m concerned for baby head growth. She is 18 days old.Born with 37 CM head circumference today 40 cm.is that normal.
Large head: 40 cm at 18 days is large. IF there is no bulging of the fontanelle, the difference may be due to molding durign the delivery. Was this a large baby? Is there a family history of large heads. If there is any concern, speak to your pediatrician andi f necessary have an ultrasound done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Normal 6 month male w/nl growth and development. Disparate mid upper arm circumference--3 CM difference. Any thoughts? Thanks!
See ortho: See an orthopedist and perhaps a neurologist. Questions to be answered are is it muscle not developing because of nerve issue or just born that way or is there a muscle problem. Is the smaller arm the problem or does the bigger arm have the issue? Can he use both equally? These are best answered with orthopedics and neurology visits. ...Read more
My 4 month old baby has a 98th percentile head circumference. His head has been in this percentile since pregnancy and birth. Is this worrying?
NOT PARTICULARLY: Stable parameters are usually normal, while a worrisome feature would be crossing growth lines from average to large. That would require some additional workup.Often at least one parent has a big head (genetic influence). Since I've lived with this for quite a while I don't think its a problem. It can become a problem when trying to find a hat that fits. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
10 week old baby length and weight both 85th percentile. Head circumference 95th percentile. Does this mean he has a big head in proportion to body?
Not really: I don't consider that difference worth anything more than noting. Big babies are big all over and this falls within the normal variation of such measurements. If the kid was 50% weight/length and 95% head, I would just measure the parents head to see where baby inherited it from. There are other issues to consider with a big head, but not from the reported info. ...Read more
My 3 month old girl has a head circumference of 38.5 CM ..at birth she measured 34cms.m worried abt her low growth ..is she ok?
Within normal range: Both of these measurements are within the normal range and by themselves are not notable.Measurements of head circumference at this age is inconsistent from one observer to another. Head growth is better followed with serial measurements, done with the same technique and monitored over time. Two measurements will not establish a pattern while 3 or more likely give more information.Time will tell ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
37 week pregnant.Cervical length is normal. Found loose cord around neck at time of scan. Placenta is anterior in uterus. Maturity grade 1. Suggest?
My 4 month olds head circumference went from 70th percentile to 89th percentile in one month. Should I be worried?
Not necessarily: Variations in head circumference from month to month can be due to rapid rate of growth early in life or to measurement variance. If the baby appears not to be meeting age-appropriate milestones; loses tone, is intolerant of feeding, has fever or a bulging fontanelle, please have her or him evaluated immediately. ...Read more
Depends: If it has changed from the 10% to the 97% since birth, I would be more concerned than if it was big all along. If his height and weight are on the larger side it would be more consistent with a normal variant. It didn't bother me much in life, except when looking for a helmet that would fit. ...Read more
