Electrocardiogram (Definition)

Electrocardiogram (ecg, ekg) is a print-out of the electrical forces detected by electrodes on the chest wall, as electricity travels through the heart with each heart beat. The electrodes are placed in different positions, and each position "sees" the electrical activity of the heart from its own vantage point. Abnormalities in signal detected at chest surface ...Read more

Does having a normal EKG rule out myocarditis?

Does having a normal EKG rule out myocarditis?

Chest pains but a normal EKG should I not be worried?

Chest pains but a normal EKG should I not be worried?

Anxiety and Panic: Hundreds of young people spend thousands of dollars every day seeking emergent or expensive medical care for 'chest pains' only to be told that they are normal and may have anxiety. Many humans hold their tension in their chest. There are lots of muscles in the chest that can spasm. I would get a good family physician to guide you through this; to reassure you and to help you deal better. ...Read more

I am 28 year old female. Have had some pain in chest and tightnesd. Had 5 normal ekgs normal blood work and 2 normal chest xrays...should I worry?

See below: The fact that you have had 5 normal EKGs and normal blood work and 2 normal chest x-rays should reassure you. It is unlikely that you have something life threatening. However, you should expect a narrow differential diagnosis from your physician at this point of the work up or referral to a cardiologist for further testing if there is a concern that this is cardiac related. ...Read more

I have been to a cardologist and he don't seem to be worried but I had a normal ekg, normal echo, maybe I just need to stop worry that is all I do?

Normal: If your cardiologist has worked you up and is confident there is nothing wrong with you, likely you should stop worrying. Many people literally worry themselves sick. Perhaps you should get on a regular diet and exercise program and put your energy there instead of worrying. ...Read more

Normal ekgs and chest xrays, but I still want further evaluation. However the doc is reluctant to do that relying on what ekg says. Suggestion?

Normal ekgs and chest xrays, but I still want further evaluation. However the doc is reluctant to do that relying on what ekg says. Suggestion?

Evaluation: There is a great excess of medical testing done which isn't really indicated. Often it is prompted by anxious patients pushing for unneeded testing. Discuss your status with your doctor and ask frankly what is going on and whether there is a reason to test further. ...Read more

Is it possible to get a normal EKG And Echo but still have tachycardia?

Yes!: Tachycardia is rapid heart beat >90/minutes. HR varies with Emotional and Physical state. And subjective feeling of rapid HR should be quantified with checking HR at that time for at least 1 minutes.
If you are calm when EKG was done then it would not show Tachycardia or any other abnormal rythm.
Echocardiogram was done to se if there is any structural cause for your"Tachycardia" ...Read more

What could cause chest tightness? I had normal ekgs and lab work but having these pains for weeks now?

Surprisingly: It is usually associated with other symptoms such as fatigue, heart palpitations, undue sweating headaches etc. It also comes and goes. If this applies to you it could be as simple as diet, particularly the junk. Symptoms are often just "alarm bells" ringing in a complex system and provide warning that all is not well. ...Read more

Could an ST depression on EKG be caused by panic or an error? I'm 29/F/very thin and had 4 normal EKGs in the past.

Could an ST depression on EKG be caused by panic or an error? I'm 29/F/very thin and had 4 normal EKGs in the past.

Abnormal EKG: There are many things that can influence the electrocardiogram. ST depression can indicate ischemia (inadequate oxygen supply to the heart) and so it makes doctors take notice, but hyperventilation, some medications, and other medical conditions can also affect the ST. Consider a cardiology consultation to review your EKG. ...Read more

Why woukd my pulse be 120 in the morning time when I haven't done any heavy activity? Have had normal EKG and echogram in last year. Anxiety?

Anxiety is one: Possibility but there are lots of others. Please continue to visit your doc until you are both satisfied. Cardiologist herbert benson wrote a little book called the relaxation response. It's a simple mental technique to reduce the fight-flight response, which can account for high BP and rapid heart beat. I'll try to refer your question to another expert here on healthtap also if it works. Peace. ...Read more
