The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. More than needed: About two liters would be sufficient, unless you are engaged in activity than causes excessive sweating or are exposed to high ambient temperature. See this site for more info.

What is the normal urine output in a case of hypovolemic shock? What are the doctors looking for?

Oliguria: Oliguria or low urine output is defined as less than approximately 350 cc/day. Anuria or absence of urine is less than 50 cc day. Either of these conditions can occur in hypovolemic shock. Treatment of this condition usually requires large amounts of IV fluids and I usually would like to see at least 100/cc of urine per hour to indicate adequate repletion of volume losses. ...Read more

The past 2 months I have eaten a lot less. Decreased frequency in urination despite drinking 3L of water daily. Urine never light/clear. Normal?

Water goes somewhere: 3L a day is a bit much. But if it is that much for weeks/months, then obviously the fluid is not accumulating, and nothing bad is happening. It is a relatively large amount of intake compared to average, but there is no fluid retention occurring, so doesn't seem like there are consequences from it. Cannot say in your particular case. ...Read more

I have less urine output for 2 months now, my urinalyses is ok. I have normal creatinin and bum. I drink a lot of fluid but still the problem persist.

OK: It seems that you have had appropriate initial work up. Likely nothing to worry about with those tests being normal. However, for completeness, there are tests in which you collect your urine for 24 hours that could be more helpful. I would discuss this further with your doctor ...Read more

How many times a 3 month old should poo? My girl goes once a day. Is this normal? She was going 3 to 4 times before. Her urine output is 10 to15 times

Considerable variatn: A breast fed kid may poo a small smear every feed or a cradle full once a week and still be within the normal range. Formula babies tend to poo no less than daily, and all tend to slow some if you begin adding cereals or other foods. Voiding at least every 4 hours assures good hydration. ...Read more

Is it normal to urinate a lot when drinking 3 to 4 liters of water daily? However my urine is clear and it doesn't hurt or burn.

Once an hour.: Unless you are waking up to urinate you are excreting 4000 ml of urine in about 12 hours. That is about 325 cc/hr which is about the normal capacity of a bladder. Therefore you should be urinating about once an hour. ...Read more

Hello have tonsillitis and have been put on penicillin two tablets four times daily without food, my urine is a florecent. Yellow is this normal?

Don't worry: You might even smell the antibiotic in your urine. The color is usually related to your level of hydration. The clearer the better. If you are fighting an infection it is best to drink lots and lots of fluids. You will be helping your body fight the infection and you will feel better. Most people are somewhat dehydrated normally. When sick, they tend to drink less, and this makes things worse. ...Read more

What diseases could be related with low urinary output, when creatinine, BUN and urine analysis including proteins and clearance are normal? Many thank

Be more specific?: Something's wrong here. Urinary output parallels fluid intake from all sources. If you drink more water, and your kidney function is reasonably normal, you pee more. If you're not drinking much, and it's a hot day and you're sweating, your urine output will be lower than some reference range. Generally, don't try to diagnose yourself or other with labs without sharing a clinical history. ...Read more

Is it normal for 35 y/o non-alcoholic female w/o family history of PKD to develop multiple painful bilateral renal cysts, high urine output & high bp?

Isolated PKD: PKD is autosomal dominant. One PKD allele is all that is needed to express PKD. Expression is over 90%. What you report is not normal, nor usual. Over 90% of expressed, affected persons have an affected parent. Yet, old data indicate that ~10% of affected persons do not have a parent with expressed PKD. Yet new data reveal that PKD gene mutations do exist in a parent without expression. ...Read more
