3 yr male has a 1.75 cm, firm, smooth, oval, non painful, fairly mobile, swollen gland in groin for two weeks tried antibiotics for a week no result, had CBC normal. doctor wants biopsy is it needed?

Good idea: Assuming this area has been investigated, with some noninvasive scanning (i.e. ultrasound, CT scan) and there has been no diagnosis, it would be appropriate to try and determine what it is. In this instance, the only choices would be to biopsy, or remove it. Maybe normal: If your child is healthy, values may be normal. Viral illnesses can alter WBC for a few weeks but the bottom line is the health status of the child. However, If there are significant alterations of certain cell lines such a as red blood cells, platelets or significant drop in levels of certain white blood cell types, further evaluation may be needed. ...Read more
