I have high triglycerides, normal cholesterol levels, but high iron levels in my blood. Any idea what this means? Thanks!

I have high triglycerides, normal cholesterol levels, but high iron levels in my blood. Any idea what this means? Thanks!

Not enough info: The high triglyceride can be dietary but liver disease and diabetes should be excluded. The high iron is only signficant if you have evidence of hemochromatosis which causes liver disease. You need a fasting serum transferrin saturation & fasting sugar, plasma ferritin and liver function tests. Elevated iron may simply be a sign of good health. ...Read more

Crp and cholesterol related?

Cholesterol is a fat: which allows animal cell membranes to be flexible & humans to move; has little to do with arterial disease though promoted by NIH.gov for 4 decades for less $. Typical total cholesterol before people 1st obvious heart attack 170 mg/dL. LDL-C is not measured from your blood, only estimated: LDL-C = TC - HDL-C - 1/5th triglycerides. Get NMR lipoprotein test, get LDL particles <400 to max 700 nmol/L ...Read more

Hdl 31mg low triglyceride s 334mg high cholesterol 209 high..Is this bad? Please ezplain..

Lipid Abnormalities: Bad is not a common word we use in medicine. This scenario is a very common type of cholesterol problem. The biggest issues with these numbers are that your lifestyle numbers--the numbers you can change--are all out of whack and putting you in danger. Eating right, exercising correctly and limiting your sugars will lower the triglycerides and raise the hdl. This is vital for you at your age. ...Read more

HDL normal, triglycerid normal, HDL normal, non-HDL normal but why Total cholesterol is low 3.61 mol/l ? What are risks for health ?

HDL normal, triglycerid normal, HDL normal, non-HDL normal but why Total cholesterol is low 3.61 mol/l ? What are risks for health ?

None: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your total cholesterol is okay. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

High HDL related to high cholester?

High HDL related to high cholester?

Yes: Total cholesterol measures the cholesterol contained in all lipoproteins including low density lipoprotein (ldl), intermediate density lipoprotein (idl), high density lipoprotein (hdl), very low density lipoprotein (vldl), and chylomicrons. If high hdl-c is present, total cholesterol will be increased. ...Read more

My fbs, cholesterol, ldl, and alt/sgpt are high, but my HDL and triglycerides are normal. What does this mean?

Concerns: Need to see a doctor. Elevated blood sugar, fasting, along with elelvated cholesterol are both risk factors for heart disease. Diabetes or pre-diabetes can often be associated with fatty liver, which can raise the liver function testes (alt/ast) even if the triglyceride level is normal. Important to get this addressed asap. ...Read more

Hdl cholesterol level is high. Can it ever be too high?

Hdl cholesterol level is high. Can it ever be too high?

Unusual over 100: Hdl cholesterol (hdl-c) levels over 100 are vary uncommon. In general, high hdl-c may be the result of genetics (hyperalphalipoproteinemia), exercise, increased alcohol intake, or medications (niacin, fibrates). Rare causes include obstruction in the biliary tract, very high blood levels of dilantin, and organophosphate toxicity. ...Read more

Cholesterol high, LDL high, HDL high, ALT high, AST high could the cause be my TSH being high from Hashimoto's?

Cholesterol high, LDL high, HDL high, ALT high, AST high could the cause be my TSH being high from Hashimoto's?

Definitely: Hypothyroidism will cause all of these metabolic problems. It commonly causes HyperCholesterolemia, and will cause your liver enzymes to elevate because of fat accumulating in the liver cells, called NASH (Non-Alcoholic SteatoHepatitis). NASH rarely actually leads to hepatic problems/failure- only has that potential if the metabolic impairment isn't fixed. The high LDL Cholesterol can hurt badly! ...Read more

Is it fine to have high bad cholesterol if one has high good cholesterol?

Is it fine to have high bad cholesterol if one has high good cholesterol?

Depends on a lot: 1st, it depends how high. If HDL is over 85, then yes, LDL can be very high - for most people. 2nd, what other risk factors do you have? With high bp, smoking, diabetes and obesity, then the hdl-to-ldl ratio should be better because risk is so much higher. See a lipid specialist and consider a 'fractionated lipid panel' to help determine risk. ...Read more

Bloodwork: AST43. Other liver values high normal but double a year ago. Cholesterol very high:total 255, LDL 178. Always low before. Liver disease?

Maybe fatty liver ?: Fatty liver is incredibly common predominantly due to: high alcohol intake, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity. The more of these risks you have the greater the chance of fatty liver. Addressing these risks is an important step to correcting fatty liver. Distinguish hepatosteatosis (fatty liver) from steatohepatitis (fatty liver with abnormal liver tests) versus MANY other possibilities--see doc. ...Read more

Why does my test show normal level of LDL and triglyceride but elevated level of hdl?

Why does my test show normal level of LDL and triglyceride but elevated level of hdl?

That' a good thing: The standard lipid panel measures levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides (tg). These lipids are carried in the circulation by various lipoprotein particles. Tg is used to estimate vldl concentration, while the cholesterol carried in LDL and HDL (ldl-c and hdl-c) is used to estimate LDL and HDL particle concentrations. High HDL is commonly associated with lower heart disease risk. ...Read more
