VERY NORMAL!: We se uric acid crystals from the day kids are born. This is normal in infant urine and absolutely no reason to be concerned. Stools in 4mo old: Green stools in a 4 mo old, 4 times a day can be pretty normal. Especially if you are starting to introduce new foods or if the baby is on medication. Probably normal: Newborn babies may have bm's many times a day, if breastfeeding, usually very liquid, golden yellow, frothy and with small curds. It has very little smell. Self Limited: I presume age of enquirer was entered in error. Irregularity of bowel as described is likely due to diarrhea, usually a self ltd condition with toddlers. Feeding through the diarrhea is best, avoid use of juices which can prolong diarrhea or prolonged use of ORT to avoid starvation stools. Any other symptoms?: And what does it smell like? Fishy? Mousy? Sweaty feet? Fruity? Just very strong? Odd urine odor may be caused by accumulation of smelly metabolic precursors or byproducts or possibly UTI with urea-splitting bacteria. My 3 yo had GI bug 5 do. Since then urine in diaper has had orange tint. Put cottonball in diaper squeezed YELLOW urine out. Act, eating fine. Worry?
No worry: When urine that has uric acid crystals in it, which can happen if child is a little bit dehydrated or recovering from an illness, the uric acid crystals hit the gel beads in the diaper and these combine for the orange tint. We see this all the time in newborn's diapers because they excrete relatively more uric acid. That's why the cotton ball urine was yellow and the diaper is discolored! ...Read more
