It depends.: Not all babies develop at the same pace or reach milestones at the same time. If you ask a group of moms when their children started talking you will get a different answer from each. Some babies take longer to learn how to coordinate their tongue and mouth to form sounds. Speech issues: We divide speech acquisition into 2 large areas. 1)Receptive speech and 2)Expressive speech. Your grandson seems to be OK at receptive speech. Why, I'm not sure, but as long as you are talking and he evidences understanding, do not worry. Also, if he is also hearing Tagalong(?), it is well-known that kids who are learning more than 1 language at a time have delayed expressive language. ...Read more

Completely Normal: It sounds like your 10 month old is hitting all the appropriate developmental milestones. Saying mama and dada is right on time. You baby is fine: Your baby is just fine. Your baby is doing exactly what is expected at that age. All babies develop at different rates, so I wouldn't worry at all. Most babies will say mama and Dada between 4-9 months. ...Read more

Diarrhea and allergy: If you already see a gastroenterologist. If all infectious, hormonal etiologies have been ruled out and your doctor see a lot of eosinophilic infiltration in your gut, you might have a type of food allergy that causes severe diarrhea called eosinophilic gastroenteritis. Follow closely..: It is a bit early for the skull to fuse, but unless he has had a head MRI or ct to assess exactly how open or closed they are, i would not panic. If his head shape is normal and symmetric, if head size is increasing along appropriate percentiles, development is normal, then i would put my mind at ease. However, these parameters, including head size and shape, need to be monitored monthly for now. ...Read more

More detail needed: The HSV blood tests can give false results. With negative test 2 months earlier, and if no symptoms of new herpes in the meantime (usually obvious blisters or sores, either mouth or genital area), there is a good chance the new test result is false. Re-post another question with the details, including the exact test done (brand name) and the numerical results for both HSV1 and HSV2. ...Read more
