?Gilbert Syndrome?: It is possible that he has the common hereditary cause of increased bilirubin, gilbert's syndrome, and is found in up to 5% of the population. The build-up of bilirubin can cause mild jaundice, but usually nothing else. Usually the liver can breakdown bilirubin quickly and u pee it out, but in this case it can't do it fast, thus a build up. Gilbert's syndrome: It is not uncommon for babies without gilbert's syndrome to be born with temporary jaundice that is not harmful as it clears as soon as the liver function becomes more efficient. Gilbert's syndrome usually manifests it self a little later in life and is also harmless. I don't know if your jaundice at birth was the former or the latter, but either way you should be fine. ...Read more
Can a person still have jaundice or something causing jaundice even if bilirubin blood test came back normal?

Absence of yellow pigment in the sclerae & oral cavities distinguishes carotenemia from jaundice. Diabetes, hypothyroidism and kiney diseases maybe associated with carotenemia but not caused by carotene ingestion. ...Read more
