Follow it: It's your physician's call as to whether to inquire about liver toxicity from your meds despite a normal ALT. Or this may simply be from some fitness activities depending history and other labs. You might simply want to follow this as your physician thinks best. ...Read more

Jaundice (Definition)

Jaundice is the accumulation in the body of bilirubin. Normally it is excreted by the liver, via the bile. For a lot of different reasons, sometimes the bilirubin can accumulate. The most common reasons are a problem with the liver or the bile duct. This can make the skin and/or the whites of the eyes turn yellow. If this occurs, see your ...Read more

Alkaline phosphatase: it is difficult to interpret labs without knowing the medical setting under which they were drawn. Having said that, there are many things besides liver issues that can cause a slight increase of alkaline phosphatase. I would recommend talking to your doctor about this, and perhaps having a repeat blood draw in 1 to 2 months. Good luck. ...Read more

10 week old exclusively breast-fed baby, started having frequent green stools with mucous, immediately after his 2 months vaccinations. Normal ?

Color changes in : Infants' stools as the intestine becomes colonized with new bacteriae, until they become "adult" brown. See pediatrician for green liquid stools, especially with fever, mucus can be benign, from swallowed saliva or mucus if he has a cold. If he is fretful, not feeding or gaining weight well, check for malabsorption or food allergy. It's very unlikely that immunizations are related in any way. ...Read more

Fasting blood work 4 months ago. TBili 1.5, DBili 0.2, AlkPhos 44, AST 24, ALT 20. Now a dull ache under right ribs. Odds it is liver? Gallbladder?

Fasting blood work 4 months ago. TBili 1.5, DBili 0.2, AlkPhos 44, AST 24, ALT 20. Now a dull ache under right ribs. Odds it is liver? Gallbladder?

Unlikely: I wouldn't be surprised if you had Gilbert's non-disease. Otherwise these labs are not suspicious for any liver problem. If this was biliary colic, you may have gallbladder disease, or a sore muscle or cartilage, or any of a number of other things. If it lasts over 2 weeks, get seen. ...Read more

See GI doctor: the high sgot/sgpt levels suggest acute hepatitis (hepatitis A or another viral hepatitis). Bilirubin spikes and then comes down in such acute cases but may fluctuate a little as it is coming down. Best to see a doctor, get a good history (i.e., previous jaundice or elevated liver enzymes), and get blood tested for hepatitis. ...Read more

Bilirubin 1.6, (id 1.3, d .25) other lft normal, reticulyte normal, , ultrasound normal . Bilirubin fluctuates, do I need to keep testing bili?

Bilirubin 1.6, (id 1.3, d .25) other lft normal, reticulyte normal, , ultrasound normal . Bilirubin fluctuates, do I need to keep testing bili?

Probably Gilbert's: Gilbert’s syndrome is due to deficiency of an enzyme that helps to excrete bilirubin, so the indirect bilirubin is usually elevated, without increases in alkaline phosphatase. Patients with gilbert’s syndrome are prone to develop higher bili levels from time to time. The risk increases with fasting, dehydration, repeated and profuse vomiting, infections, exertion and stress and after a surgery. ...Read more

Concerning: I would look for another cause, perhaps Dubin-Johnson or medications. Are you taking some unregulated "holistic" medicine? They are often not what they are supposed to be, and some are liver poisons. ...Read more

Liver ALT 33 U/L? Ruq & general abd pain episodes w/back pain(for 2-3yr).New onset fatty/sometimes yellowish diarrhea &loose bm(<12mo).GB gone 6mo ago

Odd: Your serum ALT is normal. You had RUQ and generalized abdominal pain with radiation to the back for 3 years? Why did you wait so long to see a doctor? You could have postcholecystectomy diarrhea. Your doctor can tell you more about this and possible treatment options. You may want to reduce the amount of fat in your diet. Other treatment measures include antispasmodics or cholagogues. ...Read more
