Good for you: Glad to hear acdf (cervical spine surgery) has worked out for you with no pain or spasms for 10 days. At 10 days out, valium & Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) would be used as needed. If there is no pain, insomnia, anxiety or spasms, there is no good reason to take these. Persistent cough, numbness, difficulty swallowing should be reported to the spine surgeon. ...Read more

Can you take half of a hydrocodone/acetaminophen (norco) pill to get half the dosage?

Yes: The only pills generally not recommended to cut or crush are time-released longer acting opioid containing drugs, where disrupting the pill effects the time release. For an immediate release drug like Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) (or vicodin, or lortab or any other), cutting it in half is fine. ...Read more

For 4 months I have had severe buttock, thigh and shin pain. The only dose that helps now is 3, 10/325's of norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) bid. Is that safe?

Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen): "Safety" with Norco applies 1st to making sure you are not taking too much tylenol (acetaminophen) per day. 3-4000 mg per day should be maxed to keep the liver safe. You are taking 1950mg (325x3x2). The other issue is chronic use of hydrocodone which can lead to addiction, and side effects of drowsiness, nausea, constipation, etc. ...Read more

Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) has suddenly stopped working after only 5 mos. On it. Getting no pain relief at all. What is happening? Dose differs during the day, none work

Addiction: There is no medical standard to treat chronic pain with a short acting pain medicine, like norco, (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) alone. It may be best to work with a specialist trained in addiction medicine to both help you avoid the despair and damage that long term narcotic use can lead to and safer ways to manage your pain. I believe five months of Norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) has not been in the best interest of your health. ...Read more

Hello I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I have been in n norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) sense I was 14 and I'm 21 due to 2 back surgeries. Can I still take norco (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) and lower the dose?

Yes: Abrupt withdraw from narcotics can cause harm to the baby. In the setting of chronic use of narcotics of long duration, it is often best to try to slowly taper down to the lowest dose possible. A zero dose is good but not always possible. Bear in mind that your baby will have to withdraw from narcotics when born and this is a difficult way to start life. Work with your Ob on this! ...Read more
