I just got out in an air cast after 5 weeks non weight bearing. I was given allowance to walk, when I try I get a shock wave and pain. Is this normal?

Ortho knows best: I am assuming you sustained some kind of fracture. The ortho md probably saw the last xray films and noticed that you had proper callus formation so he changes the weight bearing status. It might feel uncomfortable at first but it should get better with time. Consider going for some physical therapy also if possible and don't forget to consider ICE, and/or NSAID as part of treatment. ...Read more

I have split tears to both the peroneal tendons. Tried boot for 6 weeks now cast and non weight bearing 4 weeks - still hurts. What's next?

Peroneal tears: Unfortunately, not all tendons respond to "conservative" management--boots, no weight bearing, etc. And even more important, not all tendons follow our preferred treatment time and involvement. Only a careful evaluation by an orthopedic foot surgeon can determine what is the next "best" step, including surgery. ...Read more

Is blunt dissection a safe and effective treatment for a single fairly deep plantar wart (non-weight-bearing spot on foot)?

Is blunt dissection a safe and effective treatment for a single fairly deep plantar wart (non-weight-bearing spot on foot)?

Possibly: Since warts are epidermal lesions, any treatment should be restricted to that level. Penetrating the dermis by any means creates scarring which could be painful post-treatment. While I treat most warts with canthradine, I do occasionally bluntly remove them under local anesthesia and gently treat the base with a co2 laser to prevent reoccurrence. These heal without suturing. ...Read more

Possible: Your question as stated is answered with a yes of course. An MRI may be a revealing test for multiple issues in your foot and ankle. BUT, an MRI is not always the magic answer. You need to follow-up with your foot specialist/doctor and tell them of your new issues/symptoms and get an examination to see what, if any further testing is needed. Best wishes. ...Read more

Best you ask your--: Treating surgeon, as it depends on your injury severity and how does the fixation look and how well is it healed.

Its only been 4 months, so walking without a walker or crutches might be another 2-4 months away. It all depends on your progress, which your orthopod can tell you.
Good Luck. ...Read more

Sprained ankle 5/2 felt something snap the other day pain unbearable non weight bearing xray normal pain moving up the leg to just under the knee

More eval/testing: With that type of pain, you will benefit from a very detailed exam to uncover the cause of your symptoms. It's difficult to advise you of the potential problem with this very brief description. If x-rays are normal and the diagnosis is in doubt, then an MRI is often the next best test. For now, it sounds like crutches while upright, rest, ice and elevation would be wise before seeing a physician. ...Read more
