Depends: Look for USP or consumerlabs certification for quality. Choose d3. However, before supplementing make sure you need it. Ask your doctor to check your blood levels. Don't supplement if you don't need something. Waste of money and may be harmful. ...Read more

I can't get brand vitamin pills where I live and I'm not sure if the ones that I'm taking are good quality. Should I go on taking them?
Food not pills: Several studies came out last year showing no health benefits from taking vitamins. I would recommend getting a balance of fruits and vegetables. They contain more vitamins and antioxidants than you could ever get from a pill. Spend your money of fresh foods not pills. ...Read more
No single brand: It is hard to say that there is one brand that is "safest" but as a md who specializes in nutrition, I favor vitamins that are natural & with minimal additives. I especially advise vitamins that contain the l-5-mthf form of folate, (folic acid) as regular Folic Acid may be hazardous. The best brands aren't the best-known but are readily available: pure encapsulations, thorne, designs for health, new chapter... ...Read more

Brand not important: I agree with dr. Ruiz-healy, except that it's very difficult to get sufficient vitamin d from the foods we eat. You should take a daily vitamin d supplement. Are all muti vitamins the same? I've been taking "berkly and jensen" brand for months and feel no different I even split them and take half at bedtime.
Huge differences: There are huge differences, like the difference between a $2 ; $100 bottle of wine or between fast food ; a gourmet meal. As best as I can tell the b ; j brand is like the cheap wine or fast food of multivitamins- it boasts"compare to centrum."see http://bit. Ly/18xyule to learn why centrum is lacking. See http://bit. Why? Likely few/none: Like all vitamins, single molecules found in stuff from nature which humans have long eaten & not maintained every single gene to manufacture out of other molecules (typically missing only 1 of many steps), vitamin C is routinely harvested in association with dominant other molecules, e.g. from fruit waste in industrial processing. Look up issues on http://en. Wikipedia. Org Flavonoid & Vitamin C. ...Read more
Why do you ask?: Somebody else here please correct me if necessary, but I would extremely surprised if this information exists, especially given that each preparation contains many different nutrients each of which is absorbed independent of the compounding. The supplement business is so competitive that each wants to claim (curiously, without having to be truthful) that it offers some advantage. Don't overspend. ...Read more
Bioavailability vs..: Bioavailability may vary depending on the source of your vitamin supplement. Potency and purity however play significant roles in the efficacy of the supplement, regardless of source. Find the cheapest vitamin that approaches 100% rdu (recommended daily allowance) and save money over "natural source" ones. There are of course significant benefits from eating healthy foods in general. ...Read more

Is it worth taking a muiltivitamin? Do the vitamins actually get absorbed by the body?? If so, please recommend a high quality, trusted brand/company.
If you eat a well balanced diet Multivitamins are a WASTE of $$$$$$ (except the elderly, pregnant, and ill)
Most multivitamins are absorbed unless there are gastrointestinal problems.
Any recognized brands are OK Stay away from Nature Store "formulations" they cost even more $$$
Hope this helps!

My eight year old just took about 8 gummy vitamins. Should I be concerned? It was CVS brand Gummy Dinos
Not likely: Likely no serious concern as gummy bears don't contain iron, an overdose of which is the leading cause of poisoning related injury and death in children. When I take vitamin d, in any dose or brand, I often feel not only headachey but very giddy, almost like im high, less anxious too, why?
D giddy: When deficient it can cause problems with memory, fatigue, joint and back pain, demineralization of bone, and likely depression. The relief from any of them would likely promote acute feelings of well-being. Smaller sizes of the tablets (400 iu) allow for taking quarter or half sizes - much less than the typically provided 1000 iu capsules/fat solubles. No such thing: Extreme hair growth during pregnancy is certainly unusual and not a typical complaint. Wrong reason...: Prenatal vitamins do not help women conceive, if such women are already healthy and not malnourished. Can I take vitafusion brand prenatal, and nature made brand vitamin c and spring valley brand biotin together everyday?
Probably: I can't really answer about the safety of taking those specific brands together because we really don't have enough information to accurately compare one brand against another.
