On the other hand a scar can remain a scar for a long time and can develop into scar carcinoma later. There are other nodules or tumors which are not cancer and stay as they are. Assess options: If symptomatic, consider radiation to the areas of disease causing the symptoms. Chemotherapy can be considered, if agents available. Surgery can be done for palliation but typically is not used. A lot depends on how well your father is doing now with these treatments, as well as the extent of the cancer in the body. Could be other: With your history and age, the possibility of some fungus or other infectious process is a good possibility. Not all masses are cancer and even if this were to be such you are not doomed. Whatever it is, you need to diagnose what the mass represents and treat it.
