I have a mass on the left lung; non-smoker; any non-cancer masses?

I have a mass on the left lung; non-smoker; any non-cancer masses?

Yes: The large majority of lung masses in non-smokers are old scars. In my part of the country, it's usually histoplasmosis, but a variety of other inflammatory or bnign neoplastic situations can give a lung mass. The radiologist can usually tell whether cancer is a possibility and if so, the pathologist will need to get tissue. Good luck and thanks for asking. ...Read more

Can masses grow slow in the lungs without siptoms for more than five years even they are critical in sizes. ?

Can masses grow slow in the lungs without siptoms for more than five years even they are critical in sizes. ?

Yes: It depends what critical in size means. A growing cancer for example can double in volume every ninety days, but can start as a speck. On the other hand a scar can remain a scar for a long time and can develop into scar carcinoma later. There are other nodules or tumors which are not cancer and stay as they are. If not pressing on airways it may not cause symptoms. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my dying father was diagnosed with lung cancer in october 2010 and has 2 large masses in his left lung (upper lobe)?

What do you suggest if my dying father was diagnosed with lung cancer in october 2010 and has 2 large masses in his left lung (upper lobe)?

Assess options: If symptomatic, consider radiation to the areas of disease causing the symptoms. Chemotherapy can be considered, if agents available. Surgery can be done for palliation but typically is not used. A lot depends on how well your father is doing now with these treatments, as well as the extent of the cancer in the body. I am sorry to hear that your father has to deal with this cancer. ...Read more

I have mass in my left lung ..5 cm ..are all masses cancer or could be something can live with..im not smoker but have bad asthma and high wbc 24000?

Could be other: With your history and age, the possibility of some fungus or other infectious process is a good possibility. Not all masses are cancer and even if this were to be such you are not doomed. Whatever it is, you need to diagnose what the mass represents and treat it. See a pulmonary specialist ASAP as infectious masses can be as problematic as cancer masses. Not getting a diagnosis is the bad thing. ...Read more

I had a chest x-ray that showed a 3.5cm mass on my lung. I had a CT today and the radiologist said that masses can't be diagnosed by x-rays?

I had a chest x-ray that showed a 3.5cm mass on my lung. I had a CT today and the radiologist said that masses can't be diagnosed by x-rays?

CT scan is better.: We can find some masses on chest X-ray, but a CT scan would be more accurate for smaller lesions, would be more detailed for lesions in general, and would provide information about the three-dimensionality of a lesion that you simply can't get on an X-ray. ...Read more
