Nuts ; seeds, also..: Technically you're not a vegetarian since you eat fish; it's fine to eat-just don't say you're a vegetarian! nuts ; seeds are excellent sources of protein- hemp seeds are among the very best sources.Greens like broccoli ; kale contain surprising amounts of protein- see http://www.Drfuhrman.Com/faq/question.Aspx?Sid=16;qindex=9 quinoa is also a good source. Should we avoid soy lecithin? What about food that "may contain traces of soy"?
Lecithin is safe.: Now for the "traces of soy" question: it all depends on the reaction that triggered the soy allergy discovery. If she had a severe reaction when she ate something which contained soy, then you have to be careful with those products. Be extra careful. They are warning you. Would you feed it to her if it said "this may poison your child." now, if her reactions were mild, see comment below. ...Read more
Is gluten free pasta ( maize starch, soy flour, potato starch and rice starch)with about 40 gm carbohydrates good for cholesterol ?
Does not matter: Since 90% of the cholesterol is produced by the body regardless of your diet, the above would not noticeably affect your cholesterol level. Do note that too much carb may not be good for your health. I don't believe extreme diet does anyone any good. Just eat anything in moderation and exercise at least 3 hrs a week will likely keep you in better shape. ...Read more
My 1yr old eats cheese&yogurt but poops 3x more w/trans frm similac adv to 1/3 wh milk. I can eat cheese but can't eat liquid dairy-ie.Ice cream, why?
Lactose sensitivity?: Comercial baby formulas all tend to be constipating when that is the baby's main source of nutrition. Changing to milk may alter the stooling pattern temporarily. Also, people can have varying levels of lactose sensitivity, and can tolerate dairy products if taken in smaller amounts. The character of bowel movements; hard, soft, liquid, is more important than number of stools. ...Read more
Iam gluten free gaining weight why if i avoid all bread items i eat chicken beans beef along side salad no dressing rice or corn cereal fruits?
Gaining weight: That's great that you are not consuming a lot of carbs and are watching your diet. You also need to look at the overall quantity (and calories) of what you are eating as well. Are you exercising too? Without physical activity (cardio), it is hard to lose weight. You have to burn more calories than you are consuming. You might be doing this already and have another reason for weight gain. ...Read more
Sodium free beans (kidney, black, garbanzo, pinto) vs sweet potatoes which is healthier for wright loss? I've been eatin beans and avoiding potatoes
Neither: Both types of foods contain high glycemic index sugars, the sweet potatoes being somewhat worse. A balanced, lower fat diet and exercise will suffice for weight loss of 10 lbs. Or so. A larger weight loss might require a specific diet. Of those available you should look at the dukan diet. It is a low-fat, high protein, low glycemic index-food diet and is safe for most people. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
8 wk old milk/soy protein allergy -on neocate, &allergic to rice. Showed similar reaction to nutra that contained rice/corn starch-allergic to starch?
Milk Allergy: Allergies are due to a reaction to protein. Corn is a starch or carbohydrate. If you infant reacted to nutra, it would not be from reacting to the starch. I assume the reaction was either eczema or bloody stools, not gas or a change in stools. If the reaction was not eczema or bloody stools, your baby may be intolerant and not allergic. ...Read more
My friend had high fat low carb diet and omit wheat, rice, sugar oat and all other cereals from food list. Is it safe? M indian n can"t forego wheat.
Fad diet: This "pop" diet -- despite the elaborate "scientific theory" presented by its proponents -- probably works like most of the other diet fads by limiting food choices. It's your friend's business; i trust this person will use appropriate, cost-effective supplements as needed if it's too restrictive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
