The chemical structure of caffeine resembles that of a common asthma medication, how, and what does this mean?

In order to get an equivalent benefit to the old aminophylline products (the chemical cousins) you would need to take so much that the side effects of hyper alertness, jitters, etc. Would be prohibitive. What are the effects of caffeine with Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) medication for add patients?

Stimulants: Since both are stimulants (and similar in their effects and side effects), their side effect profiles can be additive. Thus, combining them could leave you feeling shaky, insomnia, increased heart rate and blood pressure. Is caffeine better than taking medications or supplements which boosts focusing and memory like doxiderol or cerebral success?

Interesting question: Of course both companies selling these products would say no. Yet, caffeine is strongly in both. Why include it? All the individual herbs and nutritional components have some studies of cognitive effect, but none is curative of any condition. There are also no studies of the whole products as sold. So for me, advertising themselves as suitable substitutes for stimulants is fishy. For you? ...Read more

I take 150 mg. Amitriptyline at night for anxiety and depression. Does drinking caffeine takes away the benefits of the medication?

Can add to anxiety: Caffeine doesn't alter the antidepressant effect of Elavil (amitriptyline), but it can cause or worsen anxiety. So in that sense it could counteract the effect of the medication. Low to moderate amounts of caffeine shouldn't be a problem unless you're fairly sensitive to it, but on general principles I advise anxious patients to minimize caffeine. ...Read more
