Std (Definition)

This is a disease which can be transmitted from one person to another person through sexually related activities. This does not limit these activities to heterosexual intercourse, but encompasses all modalities of human-to-human sexual activity. It does not include illnesses that may make an individual more susceptible to a condition because of a sexual ...Read more

Irritating blister like sore on penis. Only had unprotected oral sex a year ago, no std symptoms. Could this be from frequent masturbation?

Irritating blister like sore on penis. Only had unprotected oral sex a year ago, no std symptoms. Could this be from frequent masturbation?

Herpes?: Genital herpes is the most common cuase of a "blister like sore on penis". Maybe infected a year ago and now having a recurrent outbreak? However, there could be other causes -- impossible to tell without more detail on appearance of the lesion, time course, other symptoms, etc. Masturbation alone is an unlikely cause. See a doctor for professional diagnosis. Good luck and happy new year. ...Read more

Can I have an STD for years without any symptoms?

Latent Syphilis: I agree with the prior answer. Syphilis also should be mentioned. Syphilis has a primary stage with genital skin ulceration, then follows a secondary stage with more widespread skin rashes. But the following latent or tertiary stage is downright scary. It may last for years with gradual damage to may body systems, potientially causing severe neurologic damage, even death. Get tested. ...Read more

If you had any type of STD and symptoms then got tested 2 years after if you really had the diseasewill it still be positive?

It depends: An std acquired and treated 2 years ago may cause a positive test result. Tests for syphilis usually remain positive after treatment. Antibody tests for herpes will also remain positive. If a test for chlamydia or gonorrhea is positive it is likely that either the std was not completely treated originally or re-infection occurred. Either way, treatment is needed. ...Read more

After catching stds I know it takes years but how many years does it take long term illness such as pelvic diease to show syntoms?

After catching stds I know it takes years but how many years does it take long term illness such as pelvic diease to show syntoms?

Usually a few weeks: Some cases of PID never cause symptoms. A woman can have infertility or tubal pregnancy from past PID and not know until tests show blocked or scarred tubes. When PID does cause symptoms, which it usually does (pelvic pain, often with fever), they usually start within a few weeks of catching gonorrhea or chlamydia. But once in a while, PID symptoms may not show up for a few months. ...Read more

I only had sex with one person just one time and it was five years ago. For religious reasons I hadn't had sex since then. Should I get tested for std?

Probably not: Especially if you have no symptoms of a STD, there is almost no reason to be concerned or tested. But some people only call intercourse 'sex' and think of other physical acts between people like oral, anal or even hand contact as safe. They are not totally safe, so it might be a good idea if you've done those things recently. Probably, you are fine! ...Read more

PID: Is caused by sexually transmitted infections (sti's) also called std's. Gonorrhea & chlamydia are main culprits but others can cause pid too. Can hpv cause fatigue and flue like symptoms? I have been diagnosed 2 years ago. I'm negative to all other stds and all bloodworks are normal.

Not HPV: HPV doesn't cause fatigue or any other systemic symptoms. Also, with 2 years having passed, it is likely your HPV infection has been cleared by your immune system and is now gone. However, if you (still?) have genital warts, see a doctor for treatment. ...Read more

I am 17 years old and I had sex with my partner and I started to bleed during it. I don't have any signs of an std, I don't know what it could be.

Can be common: Bleeding during sex, especially in someone who is young, is extremely common. The key is to not do anything that causes pain or let anyone talk you into doing anything you aren't ready to do. I would also advise being careful to think about prevention of stds and pregnancy, assuming you are not ready for that. If the bleeding is significant or continues, by all means see a physician. Good luck! ...Read more

BF tested negative 12 years ago for STD & his partner. He never had sex until we met few months ago. I tested negative in Aug. How He's hsv2 positive???

False test? Recheck: HSV usually is not part of routine STD testing, so your partner might have been infected 12 years ago. Or his current test is false; the HSV2 blood tests are often mistaken, especially if only weakly positive. Your BF should see an STD or infectious diseases expert for further evaluation and perhaps repeat testing. Good luck! ...Read more

Burning in anal/prostate shortly after ejaculation during sex. Going on for 2 years. No history of stds. Would herpes cause such a quick reaction?

Not herpes.: It sounds like you might be having some dysfunction of the seminal vesicles or prostate that provide fluid as part of semen during ejaculation. I suggest prostate exam and possible semen exam to test pH and signs of infection. Https://en. Wikipedia. Org/wiki/Seminal_vesicle ...Read more

See below.: Not sure I understand the question. But. Most std's are readily apparent within a few days after unprotected intercourse. Hi, I’m scared that I could possibly have an STD but the only “unprotected sex” i’ve had was from rape. A year ago & 2 years ago. Could I have one?
