No Period After Breakthrough Bleeding
I am on birth control pill. I had breakthrough bleeding midway through the month (fairly heavy, lasted 2 days) and now no period. I am sexually active, but we use condoms along with the pills. Is this normal to miss a period after breakthrough bleeding?
Usually: When a woman is having break through bleeding on her birth control pill most of the time she will have a normal period at the correct time. However I've had patients who had break through bleeding and then don't get a period at the usual time. I think this is because all the lining of the uterus came out as break through bleeding, so there was nothing left to shed on place saver pills.
Can you have a period right after breakthrough bleeding? And is it bad to stop taking your birth control pills all together on your second activ week
Yes/yes: It would be common to have a period after breakthrough bleeding and if this happens often a change in birth control pills might be indicated to get something stronger. If you don't take them during your second active week you are likely to get pregnant. However, it you are trying to get pregnant it is best to stop them during your period.See 1 more doctor answer
On bc 4 months. Had unprotected sex 6 days after period, & brown breakthrough bleeding for the 1st time on this pill 5 days after. Should I be worried?
Not likely: If you haven't missed any pills then the likelihood of you being pregnant is very low. It can be normal to have some breakthrough bleeding, even on the birth control pill. Chance of pregnancy using birth control perfectly over course of year is around 4-6%, so pretty low. But not zero. Good luck!
Yes!: Absolutely. There are also other possible causes, but this is not to worry about unless it becomes a pattern.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Assuming you are taking birth control pills and that;s what you're referring to. Keep taking pills.
Could breakthrough bleedIng go all the way into your actual period? So like bleeding for both those days and your actual period? Making it seem longer
Possible: Breakthrough bleeding occurs when the there is bleeding in addition to the usual cyclic bleeding. If you are bleeding because you did not cycle, then it is more a dysfunctional bleeding.
Sure: Speak to your doctor or get a virtual consult for a higher dose monophasic birth control pill for the first few months.
I took nuvaring out a week early had breakthrough bleeding the following week when period was expected. Is it suppose to come early?
Yes: You can expect to bleed when you take the ring out just as you can when you skip or stop pills.
Could breakthrough bleeding for a week cause period to not come (on BC)? bleeding lasted for a week and ended last week, period should be this week.
Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working.
Forgot to take 5 days worth of pills & then doubled up to catch up. Had breakthrough bleeding & then finished pills. Period not here? Start New pack?
Do a pregnancy test: If you miss more than 24 hours of pills, then you are not "safe" from pregnancy. So you should do an OTC test first before you start the next pack. If you have been sexually active during that week, than you need to wait at least 10 days after sex to know that you are not pregnant. If that is the case, then start the next pack. You should use a backup method for that cycle.
I'm on Nuvaring for almost a year. This month, on the 3rd week I had a breakthrough bleeding. Now, im on the week off and no sign of period. Is it normal?

Usually: Most of the time if a woman misses a pill or is late and has break through bleeding she will still get a period at the usual time. I have had patients though who have had break through bleeding and then skipped a period altogether. If the break through bleeding is from missed pills and there's no period check a pregnancy test. With missed pills use back up method of for the rest of the pack.
Anovulation: Sometimes some women will skip periods and this will throw off their cycle in such a way that they get unpredictable bleeding episodes (breakthrough bleeding). As long as you're not pregnant, then this is less concerning. If it keeps happening, it could be a sign of hormonal dysregulation and I'd invite you for a consult at that point.See 1 more doctor answer
